I have always yearned to live in the countryside because of the beauty and peace and quiet. However I have read that village life is difficult as there can be no real privacy and plenty of damaging gossip. I wouldn't make it in a village because I would be sure to tread on a few toes in my xxl wellies and end up a recluse. :-) Can't be a recluse as I need my 12 step meetings.
Living on the outskirts of a big city like Manchester has its advantages in that it takes just forty minutes for me to reach the Peak District National park-or my beautiful local park is just ten minutes away, with walks through water gardens and along the River Mersey.

I've lived in both a rural area and a big city and I'd like to live in the suburbs. A rural area was good for growing up as a child cos there were lots of picnics in the country etc but once you get to your teens theres nothing to do. Living in the city is fun when your 18+ but in the summer you do miss seeing green fields and get sick of looking at cars and grey concrete! So the suburbs are a nice medium I think!

I would love to live in the country, a small cottage with a thatched roof, old dark wood beams, and an inglenook fireplace. Stable style doors to lean on and watch the rabbits, foxes or badgers in the fields, the birds swooping over the same fields, no petrol fumes or hooting of cars. Bliss. I would loathe to live in a big city, too many people, fumes, loud and noisy, ugh!
As it is I have a semi-rural existence which is adequate, necessary as I need to be close to a hospital , but, I still pine for country living.

I love the culture of the city and exploring a wide variety of artistic and historical areas.
But the healthy buzz, and what makes me content...
I'm a country mouse.
There is nothing like a quiet peaceful sunset in the country.

I am overwhelmed by the city and underwhelmed by the country.
There are to many people in the city and prices are high. When one is in a city, there are so many things to do that one can easily spend all one's time deciding what to do.
There is are few people in the country and they all know you too well. Prices are even higher in the country than they are in the city. There are few things to do in the country and one could easily spend all one's time deciding what to do.

Rural, I live in a small town in northern Ontario, Canada. It is so beautiful here, we have deer in our back yard on a regular basis. I have feeders out and we have so many beautiful birds to look at. There is no traffic, the air is clean and it is not noisy. I wouldn't live in a city for all the money in the world.

Country girl at heart, but life in the city is for me. We lived in the country for a while and I loved being out there, but maybe a little too quiet for me. I like to be close to everything in the city. Plus, Pizza Hut won't deliver to the country and I don't like to cook! lol
