I´ve seen a report on TV some years ago. It was about an island in eastern Canada. A deep and large shaft has been dug straight downwards into the ground there. I forgot too much of it. If I remember right, this shaft was estimated to be about two hundred years old.
Can someone tell me the name and location of that island? And did they find out a bit more about the origin of that shaft in the meanwhile, or is it still a big mystery?
Thank you in advance!

You're talking about Oak Island. There is a mysterious and rather complex shaft there that is said to contain a treasure, possibly from one of the pirate ships that operated in the Atlantic back in the 18th and 19th centuries. There have been excavations but the shaft keeps filling with water. I haven't heard anything in recent years. To my knowledge, no one knows who built the shaft or why.

You are probably talking about "the Sable Island", located far offshore, approximately 180 km southeast of Nova Scotia, in the Atlantic. Search it on Google, you'll find much more information than I possibly could give you in a short answer.
