No one knows. We can only guess. Maybe you're just tired of what you where doing. Sometimes I feel better after ten seconds. Too, I can think of so many things I'd like to do. When I lie down I start feeling every itch and pain I didn't notice while I was occupied. Man just isn't meant to sleep. Maybe if you were more depressed. That always zonks me out. The maybe some time to wind down. Some people change the routine and slowly ease into bed over a period to clear the mind. Now I'm tired. I've talked myself into it. That's it. Spending time thinking about going to bed, like auto suggestion just "getting ready for bed". Did you ever notice how science almost describes us a robots and we get to thinking we are? We think we just say sleep, and pop into bed. People used to get ready for bed before they became inhuman. Maybe we have to be psychologically prepared and not just chemically tired.

If you're tired until you turn the light off, leave the light on when you go to bed.
Maybe something happened to you in your childhood (that you don't remember)after someone turned the light out & left you in the dark.
Maybe someone used to scare you after the lights were turned out.

I get that, I'm sat on the sofa in my lounge, watching TV and I am shattered and nodding off. I stand up, walk 20m to my bedroom, undress and turn the light out ( a total of 30-60 secs) and PING I'm wide awake as if I've just drunk pure caffeine! It really annoys me. Why is that?

Turning out the light creates a completely different environment around you, so your mind 'wakes up' in order to take it all in.
It's daft, like how when we close our eyes to go to sleep our pupils get bigger to let in more light, even though we're trying to sleep!!
