For one, defending NAMBLA. Lifting age restrictions on sex between men and young boys had little/nothing to do with Constitutional rights provided in the Bill of Rights. Its absurrd and disgusting.

When I see in the issues column Victims rights, I might consider some support for the ACLU. but all I hear about them is how they protect the criminal. The victim gets little support these days.

The ACLU claims it takes on cases to uphold Constitutional principles, but its real motive is to twist the Constitution to fit its radical Left view.

Here's the litmus test: if we could bring back Thomas Jefferson or Benjamin Franklin and show them the sick, twisted cases the ACLU has defended, these two men wouldn't believe the insantity of it all.

What the ACLU does not realize is that society cannot function when the legitimacy of everything is constantly challenged. All you get is chaos.

I think a lot of people finally realized the ACLU is a severely flawed, basically anti-social organization when it defended NAMBLA, the North American Man Boy Love Association. Some misguided people will say, "Well, they have to protect EVERYONE's rights." Well, why don't they protect the rights of perverted men to rape their daughters in that case?

And don't let anyone kid you that the ACLU really holds free speech in high esteem. Read this:

"No matter what else you think about the American Civil Liberties Union, you could always count on it to defend the right to speak out. So of course the debate over whether the ACLU's board members should muzzle themselves has become a delightfully public squabble.

"A director may publicly disagree with an ACLU policy position, but may not criticize the ACLU board or staff," reads a proposal drawn up by a committee named to help define the responsibilities of board members. A member who disagrees with a board decision "should refrain from publicly highlighting the fact of such disagreement."

That doesn't run afoul of the 1st Amendment. Your government can't tell you to keep your mouth shut, though your boss can when what you're saying reflects on your employer.

But isn't this a strange position for the ACLU to be in? Why would it be so concerned that a little free discourse between ACLU board members might damage the organization?

Why would it want to muzzle its own people?"

It's popular among the far right to hate the ACLU because they've been told to by Rush or some other drug-addicted fathead. That is, until they actually NEED help themselves, like they get in trouble with the law, are falsely accused, have their rights taken away or have a family member who's got a problem. Then--lo and behold!--they turn immediately to the ACLU, precisely as Rush himself did when he was in trouble. They are out there protecting everyone's rights, even KKK members and Nazis, so that all of us can retain our freedoms. Why are you against our freedoms?

I challenge you to list five cases the ACLU has been involved with in the last ten years...

Use your add details to do it.

I really don't expect an answer, so amaze me by showing that your hatred is based on something real.

Well gabe, you failed my personal test miserably. You managed to find one, just ONE case you disagreed with.
You obviously know nothing about the very issue you are presenting here.

Personally, I dislike the ACLU, for reasons far too subtle for such as you.

Do us all a favor, stay with the tv. It's better to be told what to think than to actually think.

You are, if you must know, functioning without any real information. As others below have mentioned, the ACLU has defended people YOU personally support, Ollie North, Mark Foley, the KKK. They don't only defend liberals. They are equal in their legal attentions.

You, clearly, oppose that concept, and that makes you not a very convincing conservative.

Yes.

Try this website. (American Center For Law And Justice) www.aclj.com. They are Christian based and they stand against everything the ACLU is trying to accomplish. They do a vary good job.

Wow. I just read the above answers. The ACLU in its manifesto promotes Communism. I really hope you people go visit the link above to find out the truth about what the ACLU is really up to and stop being so naive.

The ACLU has a long history of taking on unpopular cases in the interests of Constitutionality and fair play. And remember, they kept Oliver North, the darling of the conservatives, out of prison.

It looks like most of the answerers are ill informed, misinformed, or uninformed about the ACLU (what I like to call the American Criminal Lovers Union, or the All Communist Lovers Unhinged) for all they do that is against what is real American. :-)

Yes it's absurd to defend your constitutional rights because you don't like them or the people they defend.

When they say freedom is not free, they were not kidding. Sometimes the bad guys get freedom too.

Why would anybody in their right mind hate the ACLU.
