Every baby born in the USA is assigned a social security number. Every year, the Social Security Administration reports the 1000 most popular names in order... You can see it on their website. Just type in "baby names" in the search bar and it'll take you to the baby area.
Jasmine is 183rd in popularity in 2006, while Arianna was the 77th most popular name.
It depends on which part of America you live in. In the Northeast (NJ/NY) Arianna is overkill for a first name while Jasmine is unpopular. It may be different elsewhere though. You can acutally search popularity by state also on www.ssa.gov. And no, I don't work for the SSA.

because that website will give you trends on baby names....such as how popular it is in a given year, etc
