Women get morning sickness mainly because of the way their bodies handle the high surge of pregnancy hormones. It's similar to the way the hormones in birth control pills make some women sick (and not others) and the way PMS and menstrual hormones can make some women sick (and not others).

Some women's body's cope better with the hormones and they don't get sick at all. Everyone is different.

The nausea is made worse by these factors:

1. Your sense of smell is heightened when you're pregnant
2. You tend to have strong food aversions
3. Pregnancy slows down the bowels causing gas, indigestion and heartburn and constipation

Yes, it's definitely considered morning sickness even if you are only having nausea. Some people think that the worse your morning sickness is the healthier your baby is (i.e. it's a sign of a strong pregnancy) but there is no evidence to support it. Roughly 40% of women have NO morning sickness and they deliver perfectly healthy babies.

First of all, I had it and it's no fun, believe it or not I actually lost 70lbs. when I was pregnant, the way your describing is the way that I felt before it really struck me, so trust me when I say this, count yourself lucky your not throwing up and pray that you don't, LOL! Serously though your fine. I would get sick if I seen a cracker sitting on the table. My husband chews skoal, and every time he opened his skoal can I was throwing up, it got so bad I wouldn't let him do it at all around me. eventually I wouldn't even let him come around me because the smell of him made me sick, I think that's a pretty extreme case though. Could you imagine walking by your husband and smell his colone and throw up? After a while he didn't want to come around me anyways, every time he did, he was having to change his cloths and take a shower, LOL! He says he suffered to during my pregnancy, which he kinda did. Sorry getting off the point, you may just be the type that gets sick, but doesn't actually throw up, it doesn't matter if you throw up or not if you get sick it's morning sickness. As far as the baby doing well, it has nothing to do with getting sick, I have known a lot of pregnant women some didn't have morning sickness, some was like you and others were like me, and all their babies turned out fine. Don't worry and have a happy pregnancy....Good luck!

Very normal!! The biggest thing that made me want to vomit was the smell of bread!! I had to plug my nose while pulling bread out from the package!! I have heard that too that morning sickness means your baby is fine, but remember even if you don't have morning sickness your baby is fine too!!

One thing that I found that really helped me with not wanting to puke was sucking on a breath mint! That helped tons! Good luck and remember morning sickness don't last forever!! :-)

My doctor said it was the joining of the sperm and the egg that determined morning sickness. I don't really know how to explain it but some sperm doesn't agree with some women. I had children from three different fathers and with the first two I had terrible morning sickness. With the last two I had none. My husband had it for me with the last two. Both of them were his kids. all my kids were born healthy. Morning sickness doesn't have anything to do with healthy or not healthy.

I believe you get morning sickness when you aren't eating enought for the baby, nutrition wise. If you think about it, when you are sick from eating too much food, looking at food grosses you out, you are physically growing something inside you, the thought of some foods can make you naucious. Your senses are hightened. You smell differently, and possibly knowing the texture of the food grosses you out. Your more aware of your environment, and your body is reacting to it. ITs a huge change.

I don't know, but sometimes I feel like that too. Yes, it's the hormones, but I don't know why I feel that way about food. And it does mean you have plenty of hormones and your baby is doing well. Morning sickness strikes anytime day or night. Fun, huh? Hope it's over soon!

Welcome to being pregnant! That is normal, the smells of food makes me sick. But even worse the smell of a bathroom! No it is NOT true that if you have morning sickness you will have a healthy baby.
