Do his stats deserve an asterisk?
Like: * "record made in whites only league, not true standard for fully competitive baseball statistics."

I'm all for putting an asterisk on any and all stats from the segregated era. History, and the spirit of "fully" competitive baseball demand it.
Future generations should know that the game and it's stats were rigged along racial lines.
Thant's just the honest truth!

LOL people say "beyond his control" but the facts remain. It was a racially rigged game at the time regardless.. And should be noted as such. you can also then have a second asterisk that says ** "beyond his control, but still whites only none the less"
Happy?

Wow, really good question, i never actually thought about it. But if you were to put an asterik on his stats than you'd have to put an asterisk on every single other player who played in the era. I still think that Babe Ruth is probably the best ever and I'm a mets fan. Good point.

First, when and where is there an asterisk by ANYONE'S name? 2nd, can you REALLY believe that Babe Ruth was the reason for the color line? Can you name the person who WAS responsible for the color line?
Baseball is baseball. If society was once much uglier and wrong than it is now, that is not the fault of baseball players. Was the white only rule wrong? Yes. Can you blame the white players for playing? No. Why punish people for a problem they did not control?

I dont beleive in an asterisk, however ive been saying that for a while. there are tons of great pitchers that he didnt even have to face. If theres an asterisk for anything it should be that bambino was hittin into a right field porch that was pretty darn close lol (not a yanks fan) Aaron will always be King!

I don't think it deserves an asterisk, but you must take into account that it wasn't a fully competitive league. Josh Gibson is the true home run champion. In ***** leagues he hit 800+ Home runs, and including out of country leagues he hit over 1000. The out of country leagues might be too easy to count, but the ***** leagues produced just as many good players. It's too edgy to put him on the list, but i think josh should be recognized as one of the greatest home run hitters of all time.

well, i feel like babe did not have control over who played in the leage, so no it doesnt bother me that he made a great record. what does however bother me, is that there were terrific African American players, some of which had even more talant than white players and they did not receive the same amount of respect and werent a loud to play on the same ball field as whites. but i dont think babe had control over who played in the leauge, i mean he wasnt going to not play his best and not his many hr just because he had no control over who played in the league.

The record is a product of its time, as is any other record of any other era. As a product of its time, it has advantages and disadvantages compared to records of another time.
There have been changes in the rules, changes in the configuration of ballparks, changes in technology, and so on that may or may not make Babe Ruth's records more outstanding.

Stop being such a loser... Ruth had no control over the league in which he played... Bonds choose to be a cheater and he should pay for it...

no. white ball players are just as good as black ball players. most pitchers in the league now are white so its still like hitting the same marks.
