No, there is no rule of etiquette against it. Plus, how are you going to tip 15% w/o having a certain amount of change for most meals. For the most part, people round to the nearest dollar amount. I've even seen people who paid with credit cards calculate the tip so the total would be an even number. This could leave a very odd amount of change for a tip. So no its not rude to tip in coins.

No, I don't think it is rude. I'm sure they would rather get that than nothing. My friend has a rule for poor service, he leaves a penny in the bottom of the glass. I think we should at least leave the 15% because these people work hard and deserve those tips. Just don't get all sh---y and put snot or hawks in food because you don't feel you got enough.

No. But I generally wouldn't go below 15%. That is the fact of going out to eat. It's how they make any decent money. I normally start at 20% and determine service from there, going no lower than 15%. If you think service truly sucks, I would be hesitant to even pay the bill (talk to a manager about that, otherwise its theft) then never go back. I have NEVER had to pull that option in my life. Somebody would have to intentionally pour my food into my lap before I consider that.

Nope. When I pay with cash, I usually just leave the coins and add a couple dollars. However, when I pay with credit card, I usually round my amount to the nearest dollar.

No. There is nothing wrong to tip with coins. I don't do it, but if you want to, there's nothing wrong with doing it.

Kind of. However, if coins are all you have, the server would rather get them than get stiffed on her tip.

Most definitely not! A tip is a tip, and if they're smart, they'll take it!
