0% for terrible service
10% for mediocre service
15% for standard service
20% for good service
25%+++ for exceptional service

Also good idea to have a minimum tip threshold, i.e. always at least 2 dollars.

In my opinion you should factor in 15% for tip when you are figuring out where to eat. If you can't afford to tip 15% and you planned to eat out at a fancy Italian restaurant you should go to Olive Garden instead.

Trust me, you do not want tipping to be automatically included into the price of food like it is done commonly in Europe. What happens then is that you pay the same but get abysmal service.

If you really cannot pay for the tip and were caught off guard, you should write a nice note to your server telling him/her how you appreciate the service and unfortunately couldn't tip them as much as you would like to have.

If you're hungry and broke, go to the drive-thru at McDonald's and order off the dollar menu and don't worry about a tip. Servers DO remember you, and the next time you show up, you'll prob be thirsty the whole time.

Don't spend 13 bucks on a burger and drink and worry about tips, when you can get it for half that as take out and not tip at all.

I firmly believe that if you cannot afford to properly tip, you shouldn't be eating out. I am a student as well, so that is not an excuse. Tip 20%.

Well I always base myself on how much tax they charge and I base my tip on that amount.
It depends on the quality of the service and the food
