OK, so I've been reading a lot of the questions and a lot of them revolve around steroids. It got me to thinking I had a lot of baseball cards from when I was younger..when I compared a lot of the early 90's cards to a lot of the late 90's cards I couldn't believe it! We all consider Bonds, Sosa, McGwire, but look at the pitchers, and other players. Even JOHNNY DAMON had grown a ton! But, what percentage of players do you think actually used performance enhancing drugs from 1995 to 2005. Regardless of whether you think it is ok or not, what percentage would you say? I would say 40 to 50% if not more! What do you think??

Look most club houses didn't have weight rooms until the early 90's so that could have to do with some players getting bigger as well as lasting longer.
I would like to think only around 5% took roids, but I think it is closer to 15% of the players that played 5+ seasons.

It's unknown, but definitely over 5%. Several years ago (2004, I think), the Players Union agreed to accept testing only if random blind testing of players showed at least that many testing positive. They did, so testing was implemented.

I suspect that it was never above, say, 15-20%. Minor league players have undergone much more rigorous drug testing for many years, so any player would have to have started after reaching the majors. I think few players would be willing to make that big of a change in their workout routine after already having achieved success. I may be naive, of course.

I'd say probably 1/3 of players used or tried a banned substance during that time frame. Maybe slightly more. So many players ballooned in size, and are now slimming down again. Perfect example: Ivan Rodriguez.

We'll never know for sure, but 50% sounds high... I could say mid-30's though...
