You learn more from your own mistakes , usually
But sometimes you do learn from others too
Like as a child I feel I learnt from my Mum's mistakes. What I thought it was so. Whether it was good or bad is another matter.
There are some things we feel other is wrong, we learn those.

it's totally different for everybody. Some people are hard learners- they watch people screw their lives up by doing stupid stuff, then turn right around and do the exact same dumb stuff. But the smart people learn from all mistakes, whether by themselves or others.
