I had a c section 2 weeks ago and there is fluid and swelling building up under the skin on top of the stitched area, although it is not weeping. My midwife is coming to look at it tommorrow, but I was wondering if anyone else has had this, is it a sign of an infection? And what do they do to get rid of the swelling and fluid?

Yes it happened to me and I was told it was quite common!! It's not an infection it's just fluid building up under the wound!! Get this the fluid will break through and it's like your water breaking! Your going to be soaked !! After that it will heal quite nicely just keep it clean!!

I had exactly the same only the fluid broke out during the night and skin became puffy and inflamed. It was infected. You could have a blood like blister under skin,If it not feel tender or hot to touch i doubt it infected.but your midwife will sort everything for you. good luck.

Infection can occur after any surgery, on or near stitches.
I had serious surgery in Jan. In early May, I developed pains and discomfort in my abdomen.

It became worse and I was checked into hospital.
I had developed a massive abscess. I couldn't move or change position in bed without pain for a couple days. It had burst while in the hospital. Massive doses of antibiotics ensued and a drain was inserted for a week.

Fine now.

That sure sounds familiar.

Yes - I had an infection, but the scar was red, weeping and itchy. I was given antibiotics for a week which cleared it up.
