On my servers does it matter if I am running 2 processors or 1?

I run Windows 2000 and have servers for web, db, file server, mail/dns.

does it make sense for me to run 2 X xeon 2.4ghz or would i be ok running a single 3.2 xeon

Two processors or more is prefer on a server. One CPU have to divide the loads therefore it will slow down your server. With 2 or more, each cpu can do different things at the same time.

Are you planning on running anti-virus on any of them? If you have it fully scanning you'll notice a performance increase as one CPU can be used for scanning while the other is freed up for work.

Generally, newer processor is always better.

depends on how much trassic your expcting/ reciving
