it can't be cause they are communists, cause we seem to love the king pin of communism right now, which is Communist China. so what is the deal?

Because Florida is a swing state and if you make an effort to start relations with Cuba, you piss off the Cubans in Miami and lose Florida.

If the boat carrying Elian Gonzalez doesn't make it to Florida, Gore beats Bush easily.

I don't think we are afraid of Cuba. Those days have been over for a long long time now. Once the old U.S.S.R died Cuba lost it's big partner. China is not as big of a thing to deal with. China needs us and we need China.

Because there are enough Cubans in Florida to be able to tilt the electoral votes away from a candidate who they feel is not sufficiently anti-Castro, since they are still holding onto the dream that they'll get their property back if he's removed from power.

The US is not afraid of Cuba. The US just doesn't want to help Castro to continue to enslave his people. As to China, somewhere around July 1 of 1999 they were conquered by Hong Kong, the reality of that is taking a little time to sink in

They don't do things our way. So we don't like them. You have to remember the previous ruler of cuba gave the west some very favourable trading deals

I would think it is spelled out with 3 letters--- C-H-E- !!! You may not find it in history books, but a few Biker Mags ought to clear up the confusion. I'm sure there's more to it but that is a good start on the reasoning!!!!

We're not "afraid" of Cuba. We're irritated with Cuba.

They no longer serve as a threat to us since the Soviet Union collapsed, but they're still an irritation.

China is far away, it's big and it's important. Cuba is easy to use in politics because it does not matter what relations we have with them. It's all politics. Plus, Machiavellism is not dead in America, far from it.
