yes i am amish...anyway, yes to the 2nd response, that's what i'm looking for but there are updated covers that are breathable but i'm not sure which to chose. I'm chosing to try cloth, because i'm not satisfied with with the "cadillacs" of disposable diapers (swaddlers (they stick to my babies bottom) and Huggies Supreme (the cottom is too hard and leaves indentions on his bottom when he is sitting).

I think proraps would be your best bet because they have gussets which will help keep that runny breastfed poo inside. If you call the Prorap company, you can buy their seconds at a discount. 1-800-397-8594

If you are using prefolds with out pins or snappis, then I would get about 8. When I cloth diapered my little guy, I just folded the prefold into thirds and layed it into a velcro closing cover, and though it was convenient- we ended up having to wash covers a lot! If you are using fitted diapers or prefolds with a closure, then 5 or 6 should be enough.

When your baby is older, then you could switch to Bummis, or even look around at some wahm (work at home mom) made covers- you can can them in any prints these days.

And for what it's worth I think more of us should take a lead from the Amish- their simple way of life works for them for a reason. :)

I use Pro-wrap covers with the prefold diapers. I sometimes use Snappis to keep the diaper in place before covering but the Pro-Wrap is great for keeping the diaper in place. I also use Motherease Sandy diapers and the covers that go with them. I am not Amish. I am a mom saving tons of money by not buying diapers and my baby has a diaper rash free bottom. I started out with 12 prefolds with 5 covers and 12 Motherease with five covers.

You could try Motherease airflow or rikki covers. They are not cheap at $10 each, however I have purchased several which I will start using in about a week (I have a newborn). They are obtainable on the web at www.motherease.com and they have a 2nd hand sale forum where you can try one out used for cheap - this is what I did. They are supposed to last through several children so long as you wash and dry correctly (gently). Good luck!

Forget that rude comment about being Amish........Good for you for being "green" and not filling up our Earth's landfills with disposable diapers.

Okay, now for my answer: I assume you mean what is a good garment for your baby to wear over the cloth diapers. They make plastic pants for just this purpose. They look like bloomers ( kind of 'puffy' panties ) and they are sold near the diapers.

If I have mis-understood your question.........please let me know and I will try to answer again.

Here's reviews on cloth diaper covers http://www.diaperpin.com/diapers/itemlist.asp?subcat=COVER
I prefer bummis wraps, simple and it's easy to use with prefolds. Don't get that vinyl crap at walmart, it's hard to clean if there's poop!

I LOVE my Happy Heiney's. They're pocket diapers, stuffed with terry cloth inserts. They work JUST like a disposable, and attach with velcro.

they're also reasonable, come in adorable prints, and can be stuffed with either presewn inserts, or folded up prefolds.

My favorite day covers are Bummis Super Whisper Wraps.

For overnight, my favorite is an Aristocrat wool soaker.

Neither is particularly fancy, but both of them are durable and will last you through several kids.

I would get 4-5 Thirsties covers. They are great.
