Siberian Tigers will win, but Indian Tigers will have more trouble.

Siberian Tigers are larger animals than lions; so with two animals of the same age the tiger would be the larger one. The Siberian Tiger is the largest tiger species in the world. However, the lion outweighs the Sumatran tiger by 2:1 so it would have an advantage.

According to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lions
"The lion (Panthera leo) is a member of the family Felidae and one of four "big cats" in the genus Panthera. Reaching up to 225 kg (500 lb), the lion is eclipsed in size by the tiger amongst felines, and both are significantly larger than any other cat."

According to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siberian_Tigerhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siberian_Tiger
"Male Siberian Tigers weigh commonly up to 300 kilograms. An average male Siberian tiger weighs around 230 kg, but they can weigh as much as 360 kg. Females are generally smaller and weigh usually 100-180 kg."

According to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiger
"Isle tigers like the sumatran subspecies (P. t. sumatrae) are much smaller than mainland tigers and weigh usually only 100–140 kg in males and 75–110 kg in females. The extinct bali tiger (P. t. balica) was even smaller with a weight of 90–100 kg in males and 65–80 kg in females."

So the average Siberian Tiger has 75 extra kilograms of weight (163 lbs). With that much size difference the lion is at a distinct disadvantage. The sumatran and Indian species of tiger weigh about half of what a grown lion weighs so they are at a distinct disadvantage.

Finally, tigers both male and female hunt for a living. Male lions do not hunt. They mate and protect the pride, but most of the time they are warning off young males. With less fighting experience the tiger would have a lion beat. An Indian tiger would have a tougher time against an African lion, but with more experience in hunting prey they could get an edge in. However, if the fight dragged out then the larger lion would win. When male animals gather herds, prides or harems to breed with they have to fight off the younger rivals. This combat can get dangerous, but normally the younger animal wants to live so he breaks off early. The older animal is not used to killing the rival and doesn’t want to kill him; he only wants to drive them off. So lions are not very experienced killers. With this in mind tigers, of any species, would have the upper hand and the bloodlust to kill.

I would put my money on the tiger...reason male lions sleep 19 hours a day....females do the work of hunting. So the male lion is probably out of shape and the tiger would win.
