As awful as Al Gore tells us oil companies are, wouldn't you think that he would have a hard time rationalizing his own family's fortune, gained through dealings with Occidental Petrolium? Why does he believe he can live off of fat oil profits, while telling the rest of us how the oil industry is damaging the environment?

I found that article a FASCINATING read.

How does speaking out against oil companies while living off of their profits lend him credibility?? Talk is cheap, but that mansion of his and the private jets sure aren't!

Dude, you are so behind. He sold those off along time ago.
"Gore Family Ties
Occidental's coal interests were represented for many years by attorney and former U.S. Senator Albert Gore, Sr., among others. Gore, who had a long-time close friendship with Hammer, became the head of its subsidiary Island Creek Coal Company upon his election loss in the Senate. Much of Oxy's coal and phosphate production was from Tennessee, the state Gore represented in the Senate, and Gore owned shares of stock in the company. Because the stock passed to his estate after his death, his son and executor at the time, former Vice President Albert Gore, Jr. received much criticism from environmentalists. [4] [5] However, Al Gore Jr. did not exercise control over the stock, which was eventually sold when the estate closed."
At the bottom of the web page at:
http://www.answers.com/topic/occidental-petroleum-corp?cat=biz-fin
"But government backing for Occidental's Colombia proposal runs far deeper than the Gore family's stock portfolio. The Nation has learned, from a government source and the internal memos of an Occidental lobbyist, that the Clinton Administration has been quietly helping the company--a generous donor to the Democrats in recent years--to win support in Colombia for its drilling plans. While Gore has strong ties to Occidental, the Administration's point man on the issue is Energy Secretary Bill Richardson, who last year traveled to Cartagena and met with government officials on the company's behalf. Richardson has also hired a former Occidental lobbyist to work in a key international-policy position at the Energy Department."

So you see, the oil corporations have their claws in both political parties. Time for a 3rd party and a 4th party to get the votes and stop wasting our votes on the Dems and the GOP who have both sold out our country.

No, with the aid of fact Al Gore is a liberal, and liberals won't be in a position to be blamed for the movements of yet another. Conservatives, on the different hand, are responsible while something is going incorrect. Rush, Bush, O'Reilly, Hannity, Beck, and Cheney all might desire to be blamed in some sort or yet another for what handed off to Dr. Tiller.

Gore's family owns stock in Occidental. If Gore is anti-oil, then he's acting against these financial interests, and it gives him more credibility, not less.
Bush's father, uncles and brothers are heavily invested in defense contractors. Does the fact that GWB started a war that his family profits from give him less credibility as commander-in-chief? Never mind, I know the answer.
