Dissent isn't dead. Unfortunately, intolerance for dissent is alive and kicking, too.
The political right, the religious right... have no appreciation for dissent, and if it was up to them, the US would have a strict party line that every man, woman and child would adhere to and would regurgitate at every opportunity.
But, that's not going to happen. People of conscience, people of integrity... people who seek truth rather than contain it... will continue to speak.
Dissent will continue to flourish in the USA.

No -- it's just reached a point where the loudest voices attack the other loudest voices.
The concept of ration dissent and logical disagreement is comatose, and on life support. It is rapidly succumbing to the intellectual cancer that is partisan hatred and religious or racial prejudice.
