What should he do? The question is what should YOU do? You personally kow this vet... a man that gave his legs for your freedom and all you can ask is what should he do? Get a grip. Step up to the plate help him. Be an organizer find people in the community to help him find a gratifying career. People like you really make me angry it is everyone's responsibility and because you are aware and I do not care if you are a child living at home- you can dial a phone. Contact the area businesses for him and tell them his situation. Contact the media. Hold a bake sale and give him the money whatever you do do something. If everyone on YA sent him $1.00 he would be taken care of for life... God knows he has earned it. Be the soloution not a responsibility avoider.

First of all if there is a good will in the area they are always hiring people with mental and physical disabilities. Second he could volonteer somewhere, a homeless shelter, stuff like that. Most of the time with veterans they are making enough money from disability that they have no need for a job. But only are extremely bored during the day, and knowing that they can't have a job leaves them angry and depressed. So volonteering could also help.

Sorry to hear about your neighbor's sons injuries. There is not enough this country can do to repay him for the sacrifice he made.
That being said encourage him to utilize every resource he has available to him. He shouldn't be too proud to accept help, after all this country owes him a debt we can never repay.
Also, not to sound cold, being he is now a disable veteran there are many companies that may be willing to hire him to meet diversity quotas they may have established.

Tell him to go to the nearest VA Medical Hospital and ask them for their employment department. The hospitals usually only hire Veterans or Service Connected individuals. It is a damn shame that people can be so heartless. My prayers are with him and his family. And to you for taking the time to look into his options for him.

This sounds bogus.
If he got both of his legs JUST blown off he should be in a VA facility.
Not looking for job.
He should be in the pipeline for a Disability rating.
but...if I am wrong...
Then it just goes to show you how much we REALLY support the troops.
VETS uber alles.

the VA has a program just for this, they will help him go to college and get trained to do a new job if he is not able to get a job based on disability, go talk to them.
