Good stuff.
You start off with a layer of mashed potatoes in the bottom of a baking dish. Add some browned hamburger, mixed veggies, and brown gravy. Top it off with another layer of taters, and bake for 30 - 45 minutes at 350.
Then the real tip is to let it sit for about 10 - 15 minutes. Otherwise it just crumbles.
If you don't want that many potatoes, you can use a pre-made pie crust.
Top it all off with some shredded cheese, and Yummy!

Yes, I have. I've heard that some areas of the world will use lamb and other meats in a shepherd's pie, but I've only ever seen it made with ground beef. Everybody seems to have a different idea of what goes into it. Here's one recipe among thousands:
1 1/2 lbs ground beef
1 chopped onion
1 or 2 cups vegetables (chopped carrots, corn, mushrooms or peas)
3 large potatoes
Stick of butter
1/2 cup beef broth
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Salt, pepper, or other seasonings
Peel and quarter potatoes, boil in salted water until tender.
As the potatoes cook, melt 4 tablespoons butter (1/2 a stick) in large frying pan.
Saute onions in butter until tender over medium heat. If you are adding vegetables, add them according to cooking time. Put carrots in with the onions. Add corn or peas later.
Add ground beef and saute until no longer pink. Add salt and pepper. Add Worcesterchire sauce. Add half a cup of beef broth and cook uncovered over low heat for 10 minutes, and add more beef broth as necessary to keep moist.
Mash potatoes in bowl with remainder of butter, season to taste.
Place beef and onions in baking dish. Put mashed potatoes on top, leaving peaks that will brown in the oven.
Bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes, or until browned and bubbling. Broil for a few extra minutes if necessary to brown the potatoes.

Yes I do, I hated it as a kid (my mom put in mince meat) but I use roast beef and the kids love it, I think I'm still scarred b/c I hate it still.
Use the gravy from the roast beef, carrots, peas, onions, layer of cheese to be melted ontop of the mashed taters.

Shepherds, surely.
Not to be confused with a rather large cottage pie.

One of my favorites. It is layered with mashed potatos, ground beef, tomato sauce and mushrooms, green beans and peas if you want to mix them in.
