Ok well my friends are all going off to college this year. And I was out sick for a few years, so I decided to do an extra year at a prep school. And they're all saying I'm stupid for doing that and I should have just gotten a ged. And they never congratulated me on getting into a school or anything.. they make me feel like I dumb for not going to college this year. Am I just being to sensitive? Because I mean they're not saying it in a mean way, just sort of backhanded like.. we'll have to go hang out before I go to COLLEGE.

You are doing what's best for you. College is a big step and you should be as well prepared as possible. Other people can't run your life. Are they aware that you were out sick for a couple years? Where is the sympathy and understanding? Stick with your decision and let them go off to college. You will be there soon enough and when you do, you'll have your own friends and won't even think about these people anymore. If my friends called me stupid, I'd be rethinking our "friendship."

That's very obnoxious and un-called for, of them. They should be more understanding. It also seems like they were not sensitive to the fact that you were out with an illness, which is what caused that decision. They may just be jealous that you don't have to leave the school which they may still feel very attached to. They also may wish that they didn't have to deal with the fear of moving to a different city, living with people they never met, and taking classes that they may fail. They shouldn't take it out on you like this, they're not really being true friends.
You are not overreacting. You should tell them how much their behavior is hurting you. If they continue to act this way, maybe you meet some new friends in your school, and not contact them when they're at college. You don't need that kind of poison from people claiming to be your "friends"

I think you are doing the right thing if you feel the extra year will benefit you in the long run. You'll probably feel better prepared for College and do better as well.
I'm from Canada and these days with you need about an 80 average to even get in. I've known many young people who have done their Grade 12 twice just to raise their marks so they will be accepted. Good Luck.

Do what best for you and your life. Forget about what your friends are saying because they don't know what's best 4 u only you know that.So if you feel going to a school before college is right 4 u then go 4 it! And you may need to evaluate your friends because friends don't call friends stupid, I don't care how they said thats not cool at all. Hope u make the right chose!!

well I think that finishing is much better than getting your GED. Whether people believe it or not when you have GED on your resume it does raise eyebrows rather than diploma. I don't think you are being overly sensitive maybe just not on the same page as them...they should be more sensitive to your feelings and you should try to see where they are coming from...don't let it come between your friendship it isn't worth it.

Don't know as I'd say overly sensitive. You are leaning on the wind to look to friends or others to feel good about yourself and your accomplishments. It's an unfortunate thing to feel that way primarily because friends and family cannot EVER say enough good things for you to feel good about yourself over time. It's probably due to an unfortunate teaching from your growing up years.

First of all if they say you are stupid, are you sure they are even you're friends in the first place? Secondly you have to do what you think is going to prepare you best. Not everything works the same for everyone. Good luck.

You're being overly -sensitive.
Something you should know, is that the majority of friends you had in high school, you will never see again after 2-3 years.

maybe they should stop saying things like that to you and just be happy for you. You have some right to be a little upset but no any thing major.
