If you want to see the sights, and you have enough time to see everything along the way, then go for it. It is a wonderful drive. If you are going out to Vegas to visit friends, then you may like having your car.

If the main idea is to go to Vegas, rather than seeing everything in between, then you may want to fly instead. It is about a 25 hour drive from Chicago (which means 25 hours back). When you are in Vegas, you will see the traffic is terrible in the tourist areas. If you are staying on the Strip or Downtown, then you may find that you will not need a car at all. In fact, you will find it a lot easier to get around by foot, bus, monorail, or taxi than by driving your car and parking it at the next place.

You should drive if you are looking to spend some alone time with your husband, then it will be a very nice drive. If you want to see the US hearland, then it will be a wonderful drive. If you plan on leaving the tourist sites in Vegas, then it will be nice having your car.

You should fly instead if your main goal is to visit Vegas. All of that driving will wear you down. And Vegas excitment may make for a very exhausting trip back home.

If you do plan on driving it, I would suggest making the trip last at least a week and a half. Two days of driving, three days in Vegas, then two more days driving back will make you more tired after your trip than you were before it.

Yes, if you have the time to make it a real vacation. Take I-70 all the way thru the beautiful mountains and scenery of Colo. Then to Beaver, Ut. Turn south on hywy 89 to Marble Canyon. Turn west to the Grand Canyon. That's a pretty drive. You will come out at Williams. Get on I-40 to Kingman, AZ. You can go over Hoover Dam if the construction will allow. (there are signs that tell you about it before you are committed.) If not, follow the signs to Bullhead City/Laughlin. Then on to Las Vegas. It's a terrific trip and if you share the driving it will be easier. It is over 1700 miles. Years ago my friend and I drove round trip from Southern Calif. to New York City. We saw as many sights along the way as we could. Took the northern route going and the southern coming back. Two and a half weeks. It was great. Hope you both have as good a time!!!

I did this all by myself-oh, with my cat too. I was moving to LA, and I drove from Bloomington, Indiana to LV in two days-stopping around dark, and staying at reputable, safe hotels. It was great to see the country by car, and parts of New Mexico were breathtaking. After Vegas, I pushed onto LA, got out of my car and rested with family and friends, and got right back into a car and drove back to Vegas-they had planned a weekend there to celebrate my move-I should have just waited for them in Vegas!

Have fun-the drive is awesome.

Hell yeah!

I mean...if I had the time/money...maybe after this semester of college. I live in Chicago and going to Vegas is my dream!

Driving there probably would be just as expensive, if not moreso than just taking a plane, but it might not be as fun. Everyone should go on at least one road trip! It could be a great bonding experience, and there are so many place you could stop by and see on the way.

No way...You would spend more money on gas than a plane ticket would cost you. You can go direct out of Midway for only a couple of hundred bucks...Keep your eye open for deals, but even at full price, you not spending much more than $250.

You don't need a car in Vegas anyway...There is a ton of public transportation that is not expensive. Most hotels do free shuttles...and even if you have to pay, the bus or the tram is very reasonable.

It is a great trip. I have done it many times. Take I-80 west from Chicago to western Nebraska and then drop down to Denver and take I-70 through Colorado and Utah to I-15 then down to Las Vegas. I-70 through Utah is one of the most beautiful drives in America.

My sister-in-law just drove that route with three kids in the car. She didn't have any problems.

She was moving out here, but if you're visiting, I would fly! Not too expensive and a lot easier. Probably cheaper than the gas would cost you, too.
