In another question, someone said that "in Ohio a man can't volunteer to give up his rights unless there is another man there willing to take on the responsibility".

Doesn't this sound like the government believes every child should have two parents regardless of what people think?

Is this correct? Or do you believe the govt is poking their nose where they don't belong?

Every child has 2 parents, otherwise they wouldn't have been born. Also, consider that gay couples are allowed to adopt, but single gay people cannot. It is important to teach kids that life is a cooperative effort, not some kind of free-for-all orgasmic exhibition. It takes a village to produce a village idiot.

The idea is that the child is what matters. If the father and mother of a child agree that the father doesn't need to have any responsibility (mainly financial), where does the child get to choose? the government makes these types of decisions because the child can't legally chose for themselves. But these are always gray areas.

Right on hottotrot1!! Every child should be afforded every role model and/or mentor that you find agreeable. It is difficult for a youngster to figure every life question from learning only 1 persons POV! Give them the opportunity to hear varying opinions and make an informed choice. If some opinions differ from yours, explain the reasons you have for disagreeing with that person. Although you can't force your opinions on another human being you can offer another point of view on the subject. Remember, YOUR WAY IS NOT THE ONLY WAY !!!!!

They're poking their noses where it doesn't belong. I do think that a man should be able to give up his rights, but NOT his responsibility - if for whatever reason, he thinks it would be better if he wasn't part of the kid's life, that's fine... but he helped make the kid, he needs to support that child until they are no longer a child.

There have been many, many children who have grown up to be fine, upstanding, even exceptional people who were raised by only one parent. Sometimes it was because a parent took off, sometimes it was because a parent died, but the fact remains that it's hard to raise a kid by yourself but not impossible.

That is put into effect to prevent men from running away from the financial responsibility of having a baby and leaving it all on the woman. It takes 2 to have a baby but for some reason men have it in their head that it should be the the woman's burden to carry alone.

What you are failing to understand is the only thing you are forced to do as a parent is to pay. The government isn't telling you there has to be 2 parents raising a child, its telling you there has to be 2 parents financially responsible.

While it may be best, a child does not NEED two parents to be raised properly. There are many children who turned out fine raised by one parent. If one parent dies, will the state take the children away from the surviving parent in order to place them in a two-parent home? When there is a divorce, does the state mandate the parents stay together until the children are grown? Of course not.

And please read what Coragryph wrote and compare it to what you said. Two different things.

No, you are mistating the law -- and expressing an opinion that is contradicted by most studies.

Neither parent can give up financial responsibility, unless someone else is willing to assume complete financial responsibility. Gender has nothing to do with it.

And studies show that what matters most is stability and affection -- whether one parent or two, whether male or females, whether mixed gender or same gender -- the most important factors are stability and affection.

It depends on the circumstances. I am widowed taking care of my six year-old daughter. It gets overwhelming sometimes but I can do it.
