well... I think that you're pulling them out too early. It's not soaked enough will hurt. Be careful when you do that because you can actually hurt the inside of the cooch. Or just don't use it when you know you're not bleeding that much. And use a pad or panty liner. Make sure that you don't swim in the ocean when you have a period. Alot of people do but sharks WILL smell it. I surf and I just use it as a precaution, for other surfers and swimmers as well. Oh and no your period doesn't stop while you're in the water. You just don't see it because it's a larger body of water. And in the tub if you're on a heavy day you will see it. I was also on the swim team growing up and always used a tampon because obviously as soon as you get out of the water, there is nothing to catch it. So if you're heavy use it in the pool or lake. NO SWIMMING IN THE OCEAN WHILE ON YOUR PERIOD lol.

The probable reason for the pain when you went to remove it was because the tampon hadn't absorbed enough fluid yet, and so stuck to the vaginal wall. If this should happen again, just reach a finger into your vagina and try to unstick it. Unpleasant, I know, but its the only way.
Insertion may have been a similar thing, or it could have been because of angle. If your vaginal wall is too dry, even with an applicator it will be difficult. Also, because the removal of the other tampon hurt, its possible you were tense and so it was more difficult to reinsert a fresh one.
Try a lubricant such as KY if you have problems in the future.

Use the smallest size available (slender regular, junior, light). It does hurt if it hasn't had time to absorb enough fluid. That varies with how heavy or light your flow is. You'll learn with experience. You must change it at least every 8 hours, though. If you are a virgin, you may have broken your hymen. You wouldn't know since you were on your period. You should be able to use a tampon even if you are a virgin, but if it wasn't inserted just right, well, who knows? I would say, until you are a little older, or a little more comfortable with it, maybe stick with pads unless you are going swimming. Good luck!

it hurt because the inside of your vagina was dry. First if your gonna go swimming make sure you take out the tampon within 3 hours and put in a new one. Or else you will get a yeast infection. Sometimes when it hurts for me, i sit in in the bath tub for a bit and soak it. Then it wont hurt as bad. Its normal when you are dry like that dont worry

Unless you bleed super heavy (doubtful because of your young age) you really don't need a tampon just to go swimming. Your body being in water stops the flow naturally (which is why if you take a bath the tub isn't full of blood either). Everyone else is right about it not having absorbed enough fluid to slide out easily...

was it white when you pulled it out? in other words, was it not completely filled with blood? because if you didn't leave a tampon in for long enough or if you used too big of a tampon for your light flow, then the tampon just soaks up any discharge or blood that would make the tampon glide right out. if it wasn't completely used, then you should either leave it in longer (up to 8 hours at the most), or try using a smaller tampon.

The first time I used them, it hurt like CRAZY pulling them out. You just have to relax more. I was really tense, without realizing it, because I figured it would hurt. Easier said than done, but you'll get used to it, and it'll be no problem!
If you aren't already, squat down on the bathroom floor when you're taking it out: it widens the vaginal opening.
Also, make sure it's been in there long enough to be blood-soaked. It'll serve as a lubricant.

No they don't hurt to remove or put in. You need to look at the diagram from the box and see that it needs to be angled toward the small of your back. You may not have inserted it correctly.

Maybe your period is not heavy enough to make it moist enough to come out easy (you are taking it out when it is too dry). Also, try the smallest size, like slender regular.

you don't describe the pain.
Is it because the tampon is not for smaller females?
Perhaps a junior size.
Is is due to friction?
Perhaps you need to use some KY jelly to lubricate the Tampon.
