Many so called experts such as Exxon Mobil and Al Gore think Global Warming is fact.
Its funny how they argue that 'cyclical global warming' and 'man-made global warming' can be proven by science but even scientists ,that spoke to a non partisan panel ,agree they do not have enough evidence to conclude either theory correct.
Its strange also how Exxon Mobil who used to say there was no global warming happening, which I believe wholeheartedly, now it believes it does exist as a cyclical warming.
I guess they have numbers that suggest it comes around every 500 years or so.
Thats ridiculous
They have no proof whatsoever that cyclical or man made global warming is factual.
Exxon Mobil is lying.

I am sure Exxon mobil and whatever other power provider you can list will have me give up my gas powered car, which I like, and drive some weak little electric buggy just so then can slow the effect of my carbon output baloney!
It is a farce!
All the flooding in NY and anywhere in this world just happens it has nothing to do with warming of the water or whatever.
I have been to glaciers in Montana in 2003
I so no evidence of any warming

Well until God appears magically and says otherwise, I'm going to agree with the largest publicly traded integrated petroleum and natural gas company in the world and the former Vice President of the United States of America over some guy on Yahoo! Answers.
Yes it IS cyclical, but even then we have observed that CO2 levels in the atmosphere are way above where they should be at even when we account for this cyclical pattern.
CO2 levels should GRADUALLY go up, and that is not what is happening in geological time.
Do some real research before you start spewing falsehoods.

Its funny to me when AGWers say the debate is settled. There is not one portion of the debate that is settled. What is still in debate: Is CO2 a primary drive in the global temp? Is man producing enough CO2 to even have an affect on the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere? If both questions above are yes, then how much will the temp increase? How much of a temp increase would cause mankind problems and how long would it take? Would the natural processes already in place, fix any amount of damage we can do? (for example it is known that plants grow faster with more CO2) It may even be possible that releasing the CO2 back into the atmosphere would improve the environment, given that the planet was a lot more lush in the past than it is now and plants thrive when CO2 levels are increased. Increases in the amount of water held by plants and the atmosphere may balance any increase in sea level by melting ice. Only people who tend to believe propaganda, believe any of these questions are "settled". What is known, that nobody argues against, is that fossil fuels are a limited resource. So work towards nuclear power by lifting the restrictions that have made it so costly in the US. Do this, and we can eliminate a problem that we know exists (limited fossil fuels) while also eliminating a problem that may or may not exist (Man-made global warming).

It depends on your definition of "proven". If you're using the scientific definition of the word - that the evidence supporting the theory is overwhelming - then the answer to both is yes.
We know there is cyclical climate change due to the Milankovitch cycles:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milankovitch_cycles
However, we also know that the current warming is not due to these cycles because we should be in the midst of a cooling portion of the natural cycle right now. However, natural climate change cycles do exist.
We know the current warming is primarily due to human greenhouse gas emissions because
a) Natural causes cannot account for the acceleration in global warming over the past 40 years:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/6290228.stm
b) Climate models show that greenhouse gas emissions have accounted for 80-90% of the warming over that period, and fit the global temperature measurements over the past 100 years very accurately:

There is proof of cyclical Global Warming/Global Cooling. How do you think ancient "Americans" came to this continent?
***What is with the Exxon/Mobil hardon buddy? Get back on your bicycle. Don't you know you're contributing to "Human Caused Global Warming" just by being on your computer? It takes power to do that and what do you think produces that power?
Bird waste!
***I don't suppose you realize that you are arguing for the human caused Global Warming wackos while defending those who do not believe in human caused Global Warming. Exxon/Mobile takes the oil out of the ground, refines it into gasoline and we jam it in our cars and trucks and drive. Why would Exxon/Mobile want us to NOT buy their product? I drive 60 miles to and from work everyday. I firmly believe that you don't know what/how you are arguing. Global Warming and Global Cooling have been happening for billions of years on this planet! If we can stop Global Warming then we can stop Continental Drift and Volcanic Eruptions! lol!

The idea that science can't prove anything is so preposterous as to be laughable. If that were so, we'd be having this conversation by smoke signal.
Cyclic heat cycles can be proven by many means. They are way too numerous to go into here. Do the research yourself, use the "magic box" that you're using to read this.
Global warming is a theory, the second stage in the scientific method (hypothesis, theory, law).
Here's the raw facts.
1)CO2 absorbs infra-radiation.
2)When it does so, it heats up
3)CO2 levels are rising at an increasing rate. The data goes back to the late forties
4)man's activities produce CO2
Now, if you have trouble understnding this, I'm not surprised. The teaching of the basic sciences in the country is appalingly poor.
Cyclic temperature cycles have been proven by geological, archeological, chemical means, and by many other disciplines as well. If you choose not to educate yourself on these matters, then you shouldn't comment upon them. If you do choose to comment upon them, without doing the research yourself, then you consign yourself to ignorance, and your mama will cry for her ignorant child.

CO2 traps heat, no sane person will dispute that, it is easily proven. So in a sense global warming does exist. We are a long way from knowing how to correctly model global conditions to predict where a breaking point, if any, exists for the climate to take a dramatic shift for the worse. I think it's important to pursue this research (actually, I know it is, even if proof that global warming won't kill us exists).

Speak to any one who has even taken a geology class in grade school. Geological (read: Earth) time runs in tens of thousands of years not just thirty years. You cannot just look at the last thirty years if you want to discuss Earth's natural warming cycles.
And in response to your additional comment "If it can't be proven, its only a word" Well scientific theories have lots of evidence but when they are undeniably provable they are fact. So theories are not fact but they are looked over and over by scientists and retested, if it weren't supported by the scientific community as the best and most likely theory then we would hear evidence from other scientists that negate global warming.

global warming has occured many times before man showed up. some of the causes may be debatable but there is no doubt global warming can be a naturally occuring event.
what is not known is if man is contributing to the current warm up we are in. on the surface it would appear so but there is no proof. however, within reason, we should do what we can to prevent it because it is the right thing to do.

leave USA and you will see that global warming is real. open a newspaper that isn't ridiculously right wing and look at what is happening in asia. record storms, flooding and heat waves. in europe look at pictures of swiss mountains and see where the glaciers have receeded. in england wildflowers are moving higher and higher up mountains. and may become extinct.
we can't prove anything for sure especially if people are doing everything in their power to prove it wrong. and running around screaming with their hands over their ears.
note: smelly foot is right about the industrial revolution. much of global warming actually did start then. it takes a long time for the damage we do to actually result in global warming. which is why even if we are perfect with zero emissions global warming will continue for some time before we return to normal.

I'm curious to know about greenhouse gas emissions and global climate during the Industrial Revolution. That should really be the beginning, right? If global climate change is caused by man, then there should have been a huge change in greenhouse gasses at that time....right?
