Madskier1 - well the Americans didn't do any 'bailing out' as you put it for 3 years while Hitler tried to starve us into submission, so I don't think you have any claim to the moral high ground.
If you can't do something with good grace without constantly reminding people how munificent you are, then don't do it in the first place. Besides, you were saving your own backsides indirectly. I am actually grateful for the contribution that the US made in WW2, but the attitude that many Americans have (ie that we are in your debt forever) makes me feel extremely ill-disposed to your country as a whole.
The questioner is spot on - the US go on about the destabilising influence of Iran/Iraq/Afghanistan to Middle East regional security when the people that are doing 99% of the destabilising are the US helped by their sycophantic buddies Israel and the UK (I am ashamed to say). Perhaps when we've got a few hundred more British personnel killed in Iraq, you'll forgive us the debt we owe you from WW2. Although you were quite happy to bankrupt us at the time - I'd say we've paid you off!

Dig a little deeper in military history and you'll find the French are as much if not more at fault than anyone.
For some reason throughout military history in the 20th and 21st century the supposed peace loving French had drug every country into wars they didn't want. Either through appeasement, arms or opting out.
The French, for their part, would not dream of classifying the Corsican terror gangs as "freedom-fighters". But they turned a blind eye to terrorists who used French territory as a base for planning and financing mass murder in Algeria.
Even when acts of terror were conducted on French territory, the authorities chose not to act for as long as the targets were not French citizens. (Between 1979 and 1997, for example, 17 Iranian opponents of the Khomeinist regime were murdered in France. The French didn't try to catch many of the culprits).
Every country gets blamed that appears to be the strongest. It's usually years after the war is over the truth comes out. hindsight is always better than foresight.
Even now we know France sold arms to Hussein. But I'm sure we'll find out more before it's over.
Blair was less of a hawk than Churchill yet he saw the need. What the U.S. did was crazy but just about every country has been guilty of the same lack of foresight. Should we all have stayed quiet when France got us into WW I, WW II, VietNam, etc.? France could have stopped Germany at it's very beginning, yet chose to give up what wasn't their's to begin with until Germany became strong enough they almost won. If it had it'd be a totally different world. Including no longer having the right to speak against the government, let alone protest.
I don't like war or the killing. But as long as good men do nothing, evil triumphs. Sometimes it's not your fight but if you don't get involved by the times it makes it to you, it might be too late to change it.
Let history be the true judge, not a bias media.

Didn't the Brits support the USSR and China during WWII, do I remember right or was it both Montgomery and Patton who liberated Libya during that same war? Then the Lybians s became the enemy of both. The USSR was the enemy of all capitalist nations during the "cold war".
I think as you view all history, and especially the history of the United Kingdom, you will find that every country forms alliances with countries and organisations which have either previously been enemies (like England and France) or will be enemies.
I'm glad to see that you have perfect hind site. Remember that the US as does Great Britain changes Presidents and congress (in UK PM and Parliament) frequently, this changes the decision making and goals , also the nature of world governments in general is to change.
If you want to live in a stagnant world with no change, the earth is not for you.
The UK has a longer history of wars than almost any other western nation, so look at your own history before you blame others! And then go invade the Falklands over the issue of a few sheep again.

Well said. I agree as I think does the whole world.
They are amazing, they got their Butts kicked in Vietnam, Caused havoc in the Middle East, are currently destroying their image and the infrastructure in Afghanistan and Iraq and complaining about the body count.
Memo to the Yanks. You caused the problems you are now facing, and the whole world has little sympathy with you.

Yeah...you think we would have learned by now not to get involved in nation building and to just let people have the crap they get themselves into.....we might have been better off if the Russians had got control of the country.
