My 5 week old is on Enfamil Lipil as well and went through a stage at 2-3 weeks where it seemed as though she was constipated. Her doctor recommended 1tsp of Karo syrup with 1oz of water...it worked within a few hours and it wasn't runny like a laxative would make it, it was just like a "normal" baby poo!!!
Sorry for all the descriptions.

My son was very constipated with Enfamil Lipil. We tried Gentlease but it was worse so we went back to Lipil. His doctor prescribed Lactulose and it works wonders.

Both my babies had all sorts of issues on Enfamil Lipil. Turned out my oldest was lactose intolerant so we switched to Lacto Free Enfamil.
My youngest ended up having mild acid reflux, we switched to Enfamil AR and still had issues. We then switched brands to Similac Advance and she was a brand new baby!

Define "constipated". If he's only going once a day or every other day - that's not constipation, it just might be normal for him right now. (Babies' bowel habits vary from one child to the next, and they change several times over the first year.)
Now, on the other hand, if he's straining to go (turning red, grunting, arching his back) and not passing anything, or just passes a couple of little pebbles, THAT is constipation. Because of his age, you need to consult with his doctor on what to do, because it's not simple in a baby that young. (Don't give Karo syrup - there's no concrete proof that it works.)
BTW - don't let yourself be guilted or bullied into breastfeeding, where it is a good idea to do it if you can, it's not right for everyone.
Good luck!!

Back in 2004, when I had my daughter-I started her on that same formula and she was extremely constipated, so the doc switched her to lactose free, it seemed to help, but she still would have stomach issues.
This year I had another baby and I have breastfed him exclusively until I went back to work-never constipated. Now that I am back at work-I still breast feed but also supplement with Similac Isomil Advance soy with iron and my baby is still doing wonderfully. Breastfeeding is best, but not for everybody-do what works for you and your child. I did not breasfeed my 1st child and she is still beautiful and healthy-but I am seeing the benefits early on of breastfeeding my son.
Good luck momma-I know it's not easy to have a gassy baby! :-)

Try breastfeeding - you can still do it! You will have to supplement until your milk comes back, but it's never too late!
If you must give formula, Nutramigen is wonderful - completely hypoallergenic and my children never had an issue (I nursed, but supplemented with formula after age 8 mos with 1 daughter).
Milk based formulas are constipating and he could be developing an allergy to milk. Best advice is try something else and find what works. You can get Nutramigen with WIC if you have a drs prescription.
Give breastfeeding another try too - it's the best thing you can do!

Yes, try Enfamil Gentlease. That should do the trick.

My child had the same problem so we changed to enfamil gentelease formula and our doctor said to give our baby a little bit of prune juice and sometimes if it was bad we were to give her mylanta. But I would talk to your doctor first. Hope this helps.
