I went to the offical site online, but they way they word stuff i dont really understand what he has to do. Is there an amount of time he has to wait before he can apply? and how do they decide how much youre going to be able to receive during the time youre on unemployment? can you apply directly online or do you have to download/print out the forms and mail them in? any info y'all could share so i can help him understand what to do would be great he has never had to file for unemployment and neither have i so neither of us really has a clue other than that im pretty sure he will qualify. thanks in advance :) pIeCeZ!!!

Call the unemployment office and ask them these questions.

He should apply right away, although it will probably take a few weeks before he gets his first check, assuming he's eligible. In most states, you can apply online at the state website rather than printing something and mailing it. The amount you get is based on your earnings, usually over the last year or so - sometimes there is a supplement for having dependents.

When the state gets his application, they'll evaluate it and if everything checks out, will check with the employer to ask why he was fired and see if it matches what he told them - then they'll notify him of what he'll get.

The amount is based on your average quarter in the last two years. They average our your weekly pay from that quarter and pay you about 1/2 of your previous pay.

Fired people rarely qualify, unemployment is for people who were laid off. As the previous employer is the one who actually pays the money they do not have to if your friend was fired for cause.

If your friend is aving trouble with the directions he should just go into the office, there are live people there to help him fill out everything correctly.

In my state you call the state unemployment, they will ask you whether or not you quit or were fired. If you were fired there's a better chance of getting payments. They will add all the money that you make in the last year, average it out and pay you half of that. Also when you are unemployed in my state they give you free health insurance to go with it. They usually make you wait a week after you are unemployed to be able to collect, and then expect to wait another few weeks for a check to arrive. Good luck.

Different states, different procedures. If nothing else, your friend can go to the nearest Unemployment Office, in person. The phone number and address should be available in the local phone book, under the state government heading.

It depends on the reason that he was let go. If he was terminated because of his own ineptness or because he did something wrong then most likely he will not qualify for any unemployment.
He'll have to go to the unemployment office and speak to someone to see if he qualifies and for how much.
