It's all luck. That is unless you are on fertility drugs which have been shown to increase the occurance of multiple births.

Artificial insemination is usually performed by implanting a few fertilized eggs inside of the womb. They do this because most do not adhere to the uterine lining. I've known 2 different women that had fraternal twins from this method. Sometimes it is just the luck of the draw. Women can ovulate more than once a month and if both eggs are fertilized, you get fraternal twins.. It is rare, but it does happen.

What is up with everyone wanting twins? It is the luck of the draw. Genetics helps. Some fertility drugs increase your chances but it is just mostly up to God I believe. I am taking a low dose of Clomid to help me ovulate and my doctor said it increases your chances by 10% but I am not counting on twins. Be careful what you wish for you might get 6 babies at once.

Fraternal twins happen when the mom releases two eggs during ovulation and they are both fertilized. This could happen to anyone but tends to be genetic, obviously only thru the mother's family.
Identical twins happen when one egg is fertilized and then it splits. Again, could happen to anyone but does tend to be genetic and can be from either side of the family.

Fertility drugs aside its mostly luck of the draw. There is no actual genetic link to twins, with a possible exception of fraternal twins.

I solved my infertility problem with this great method http://pregnancy.kyma.info
It's a clinically proven holistic system for permanently reversing your infertility and your partner's infertility disorders and getting pregnant quickly, naturally and safely within 2 months without drugs, dangerous surgeries, side effects, or expensive infertility treatments.
You can also determine when you're ovulating with an ovulating prediction kit, you can buy them at most stores and they are found with the pregnancy tests. You can also buy a basal body temperature thermometer.
There have been many women to succeed with those types of methods. Did you know that it can take up to a year for most couples to conceive a baby, even when they have sex everyday for a year? It's actually normal. Conception isn't quite as easy as people make it out to be. Don't stress because it will happen for you.

It's both luck and your family history. If you, as a female, have a history of twins in your family, you may have slightly better chances.
Even IVF doesn't guarantee it, because ethically responsible providers will not implant more than two at a time, and it is not guaranteed that if two are implanted, that two will 'stick.'
Remember that twins are often born early and this can impact their health.

There are estimated to be approximately 125 million human twins and triplets in the world (roughly 1.9% of the world population), and just 10 million identical twins (roughly 0.2% of the world population and 8% of all twins).
So there is almost 2% to have twins

it doesnt really have anything to do with genetics. its whether the egg splits or not. but i hear that if your older when you have kids you have more of a chance or giving birth to a twins. but its a big risk. you can also have the doctor split the egg for you so you can have twins
