I'm framing some work of mine for the first time, I was wondering the best way to cut a right angle. I don't have a table saw, just a really good hand held and a dremil to make the groves with to hold the glass and art in place. I'm just worried about cutting the right angle. Help!

If you have a protractor or a 45 degree plastic triangle, you could mark the wood that way, but the cheapest most reliable way would be to go to the hardware store and get a miter box. This lets you set a piece of wood into it and make the desired angle cut using two giudes that the handsaw blade sits into.

I am assuming you want to build a picture frame. Cut two pieces at 45 degrees. Fit them together with glue or brads.

If you are going to stick with a hand saw you need a miter box, readily available at any of the big stores. Although you could use a right angled joint on a picture frame the norm is a miter joint, both pieces cut at a 45 degree angle. If you intend to do these on a regular basis I would suggest buying a small table saw, it would help with the rebates for the glass as well.

You can buy a miter box and a back saw. That way it will help you maintain the 45 deg angle that you are looking for.

If you have a protractor, you can mark the 45 angle and use that for a guide.

If you have a square piece of paper, just fold a corner over to the opposing side, then you would have a good 90 angle and a 45. Just like a little framing square.

good luck

You'll never get a true cut using a hand held saw. Invest in a power miter saw that will allow you to cut any angle between 45 and 90.

If you're going to be doing this kinda work and the wood is not more than 5 inches wide, invest in a Miter Saw. Delta's a good brand and the cost is about 100.00. It will cut 90 degree and 45 degree easy.

Bonus tip: Stay away from Craftsman (sears) power tools.

You need to buy a miter box. You can get a cheapie for less than $10 and a decent one for less than $20.

get a speed square and hold it or clamp it where you want to make your cut and follow the edge.
