I'd like to hear some forcasted dates here. In my opinion, every year, when the first team is mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, the real playoff race begins.

Going into tonight's games, the Rays' magic number to be eliminated from the AL East is 25, from the wildcard 30. So probably around Labor Day (Sept. 3 this year).
I'll take September 1 for a .500 record, Alex.
