using their mobile phones outside, feel the need to walk backwards and forwards over a distance of around 50 metres?

Is it impossible to stand still and talk?

This is because people, while they are standing up, don't want to stay still as they want to feel like they are going somewhere or doing something useful. Most people do it subconcsiously as the part of the brain that is used to control conversations is the same as the one which controls movement, and so while one is voluntarily in use the other acts of its own accord.

Well, it's a mobile phone - if you're going to stand still you might as well use a wired phone and that would be an admittance that mobile phones are utterly unnecessary for the vast majority of people.

It's because these people that walk up and down while talking is because their cell phone rang as they were on their way to the toilet .You try and stand still when you urgently need to peeeeeeeee.

People carrying on a conversation on the cell phone in public pace so they won't be such an easy target for annoying those who can hear. Who gives a rat's tail about your aunt Ida's ingrown hair on her chin!

Not at Brecon Beacon you don't. There is only one 6 inch square that you can get a signal in. Somebody needs to signpost it!

Maybe they don't want the other person watching them when they talk. Or they want to sound like they are busy doing something so they move around.
