You said most famous General George Washington is on every dollar and every quarter. Everyone probably has a picture of George Washington in their wallet. There is indeed a ranking of generals and Pershing and Washington out rank all other generals in the United States. Now most important is another question.

There is NO ranking, top to bottome of this nation's military leaders, so, any list would have to contain several, if not dozens of the more famous.

Some, such as George Washington, U.S. Grant and Dwight Eisenhower have gone on to become President of the United States.

Others, such as George S. Patton, Omar Bradley, Pershing, Sherman and others have been remembered for little more than their military careers. Still, IN those careers, they will likely be remembered for a long time. Douglass McArthur almost made a political career for himself, but made move prematurely, crossing his commander in chief while still serving.

Robert E. Lee, while not fighting FOR the U.S. may be remembered for much longer than many of the ones I've mentioned.

So, it's up to YOU to decide whom YOU think is the most famous.

Except for George Washington I would say, though ironic, that Robert E. Lee is the most famous general in US history, and I believe he is widely acknowledge to be the best general in US history.
