In theory, yes. It is possible to overheat a very small tank with a light, but it would have to be quite small and the light large and close to the water. SInce your betta will do fine without a light right over his tank, just use the light when you are there and enjoying the tank.

I've heard of it happening, so yes. The thing is, the lights on those little tanks are usually from incandescent bulbs and those put out considerable heat. You have only a very small amount of water and that's directly below the bulb. So yes, it can happen. I noticed when I initially kept my bettas in 2.5 gallon tanks that when the lights were on their water temp soared to the mid 80's. An even smaller tank would probably rise quicker and higher.

And keep in mind, too, that even if that temp is only for a few hours each day, wide temperature fluctuations are also very hard on bettas. These conditions will stress the fish, and stress leaves them open to disease.

This is why it's always best to keep bettas in at least 5 gallon tanks, with a heater that has a thermostat, so their tank temp can be stable at somewhere between 78 and 82 degrees.

Most likely this wounld not be a problem. If the light is to big then it could potentially heat the tank, but not enought to harm the beta.

Still not a good idea as fish need some lights out time to rest.

I wouldn't worry too much about the heat of the light killing the betta. However, bettas prefer less light so don't turn the light on all day.

bettas can withstand water temperatures up to 32 degrees celsius (only for a couple of days, not permanently) so it has to be a very strong light to heat up the water that much.

It can make it warmer, but it probably won't kill the fish. I have a betta, I turn the light on in the morning when I feed him, then turn it off at night when I feed him again.

PS: My betta is blue and red. He is named Dakota! :)
