If pepper people say you look fine, it means you're not course-ground like they are.
If a courtroom judge says your fine, it means you've gotta pay for that misdeed that landed you in the courtroom.
If by fine you mean what's at the end of an Italian movie, the movie's over.

This sounds like an American-English word. Many words that were taken to the USA by immigrants from Europe have been absorbed into American-English. The Dutch language has the word "fijn", which is pronounced "fine". "Fijn" can refer to a person or a neighbourhood, and it means "upmarket; posh; chic; smart; distinguished". The modern (English) meaning is something like "elegant; well-dressed" but has also come to mean "in good health", although a proud (American) parent can refer to his/her child as "a fine boy/girl", meaning "good-living; righteous; upstanding".

Depends on the context. Fine can either be quite a non-descript, non-commital way of saying you look 'ok', 'alright' etc. Or fine can be another way of saying you're 'hot', 'sexy' etc. I guess the easiest way to judge, is the person who says it and their tone of voice! Either way, it is a compliment, so that's all good! Holly xxx
