Sounds strange but I think my brother is happy about having a healthy baby but I feel his girlfriend trapped him. He is a little down..seems sad...kinda stopped talking to the ex-wife because of this and feeling it was the rt thing to do. Although he was married before , didn't have kids, but remained civil friends with the ex wife. His girlfriend was a bit jealous naturally then all of a sudden she is pregnant.

Of course men can go through depression. The sudden realization of responsibility is usually what stressed men out the most. It many play apart that he may not really lover her or she trapped him, but I must say. He got her pregnant whether or not she tricked him he id have a choice to use a condom or not get into a relationship with a woman that used this kind of trickery. Sad but what really matters is that he is a father. Whether he stays with this woman or not he needs to remain that babies father. The things that bother him like feeling trapped, her being jealous will way heavily on him right now and even more so now that they have the baby. The best thing to do for him is not not help him feel more trapped by talking about his depression or why. Men typically don't do well with talking and to help him I would take on the job of doing it yourself unless you are a professional. Ask him if he will go see someone. My guess is most men won't likely go. He will eventually figure it out and maybe him and his girlfriend even if she tricked him will find someway to be parents and maybe even good one. The worst part of any relationship is from pregnancy until the baby is 1 year old. It is a huge stressor for anyone. Even good marriages where they decided to have a baby. Support him in staying with her because it isn't about what he wants anymore that is the job of a good parent. Doing what is best for the baby. Just because he is depressed and unhappy doesn't mean he needs to leave her. If it gets abusive then as Dr. Phil says "Children would rather be from broken home than live in one" but for now just let things play through, he won't be depressed forever. For many parents men and women it is the depression of change, realizing it isn't all about you anymore and you must be truly unselfish to be a good parent and a partner.

Yes it can happen and if he is worried that she did something so she could have a baby to keep him may be playing a big part. Just because there is a baby is not casue to married or stay with a person you feel tricked you and yo ucan not trust. Just be there for him sounds like he needs it.

Maybe he should have married her before he got her pregnant. He is 50% responsible, so don't just blame her. Yes - men can go through depression after a baby. Their life just changed, and they lose a ton of free time.
