This began about two weeks ago and I am wondering if it would be that my tires need to be realigned or could it be something more serious? I need to drive to another city soon but don't have money to check the car right now. Any help would be appreciated. I keep my car serviced well and it has fairly new tires with good tread.

Thank you all so much for answers so far. I wasn't going to drive my car out of town because I this, but I did not want to be ripped off by anyone. You have all helped me a lot. I have sufficient air in my tires and I was not aware of a universal joint problem.

this shimmy or wobble sounds like a problem my wife had . she hit a curb or something ? she doesn't remember , anyway i checked it out and found her right front tire had a bump on the lower side wall ,i jacked the car up and spun the wheel and you could see it wobble. i put that tire in the back , she couldn't feel it there. but if it real bad you have to replace it, there could be other tires like it also , so if you don't know what your doing , have someone help you , if you can't control your car , that's dangerous.

Could just need an alignment.

And lemme tell ya, an alignment is not that much (around $50 or less in my area).

Driving on wobbly tires makes them wear faster, so if you continue to drive, you are greatly decreasing the life of your fairly new tires. When you have to get those tires replaced because you've worn them down, you'll be wishing you had paid that 50 bucks to just get the car aligned!!

don't take a chance .. may be a tire with a bad belt in it or a wheel bearing going bad...have it checked out before the trip

Tired could be unbalanced...or they might just need a rotation. For more serious things; it could be your tie-rods...struts or strut assemblies...differential could be going bad...etc.

Best bet is really to have a mechanic look at it.

Don't trust it on a trip. If it shakes, it's serious.
Front drive cars have U-joints that can come apart.
You could kill someone.....................
