Come on, people. You don't really believe this nonsense do you? I am amazed at how gullible some of you really are. I played football for many years and I can tell you firsthand that coaches care too much about winning to worry about something as ridiculous as a kids diet. Unless, of course, he's obese or malnourished. Neither of which seem to be the case here.

No, your coach is very ignorant or prejudiced. He should have some basic understanding of nutrition and biology and therefore must know that a vegan diet need lack nothing if you are careful. He is almost certainly lying to you concerning the supposed district non-vegan rule, however in some high meat producing states it is not imposable that for highly subjective reasons such a rule could be on the books. The district should be wide open for law suit. With numbers such as yours you should be welcome to play for any school in the nation. Cal State at Berkley should be interested in you.

You seem awful big to be a linebacker (or vegan for that matter), but I'll answer your question. If you are in high school, the coach has no say in what you eat or believe. If you are on scholarship at college or a walk-on, they pretty much have the right to do what they want. I suspect that you're in high school because you mentioned it being a "district" rule. There is no such thing as a district rule anywhere that I know of regarding someones diet.

Ever though it might be because the ball and maybe part of the players' footwear are made of leather? As a vegan you couldn't take part in any activity which meant an animal had to die for the equipment to be made.

Anyone will. Maybe your coach thinks without meat you wont be as strong but he's probably just prejudiced. Stick to your principles and go somewhere else. Heck, I'd transfer to the rival high school and kick the new coaches trash. There is nothing more fulfilling than beating someone who wouldn't let you play, believe me I know.

Looks like your new coach will enjoy a short-lived career as a head coach as well as a losing season.
How did you "beef up?"

If there is a district rule it is unconstitutional. Challenge it. I can see not wanting to play for that particular team anymore, but if there is a practice that is against the law you should tell someone.
