Forget about the steroids. We shall pretend it never happened. Barry goes down as one of the top ten hitters of all-time. Why would you root for him? He has always been a total jerk to fans, the media, teammates- everyone! He is an avowed racist. "Andy Van Slyke is The Great White Hope" - "I'm not signing autographs for white kids". Tell me what there is to like about him? Please give me an honest explanation on how you could like someone like that, and how you would explain to your kids that it was okay to like someone like that?

Sports figures have the moral obligation to be of good character because the children will emulate them. Why does Nomo always start talking about how things USED to be a long time ago? It was a different world then! I'm talking about NOW!

It's just something called "joking around" in a sarcastic manner. Comedians do it, athletes do it and celebrities definitely do it.....
He's not a racist because I've met him in person at work (EA Sports) and in our old neighborhood. He's generous, kind, caring and as normal as they come. He shakes everyone's hand, signs autographs for everyone and poses for photos no matter who you are. Even when he got his knee scoped, he took the time to recognize his fans, while on crutches and in pain.
I'll definitely use his work ethic and kindness as something to teach my kids with. His past drug use is the past and we're glad he's clean now. I always tell my kids that Barry made a mistake with drugs, but only did it for reasons to help the team. Drugs are bad, and some people just have to face the consequences in the future to their bodies.....

Barry Bonds is taking after his godfather Willie Mays. Mays was the same way after he retired from baseball. When he was in the game, he was friendly and popular. But once Mays returned and ballplayers started to sign million dollar contracts he turned bitter and angry toward fans. Another angry ex ball player is Bob Gibson of the St. Louis Cardinal. Pure anger. That's just the way they are. At least there are not being phonies and smile in your faces.

You don't have to like Barry Bonds... he's an asshole to the media and to other fans other than SF. But he has this unattainable accomplishment under his belt now. Throughout his whole career, he's had an awesome swing. It's in his blood. Steroids or not. I can respect what he's done.

Hes never said anything to me..Ive seen him at DODGEr stadium several times... always a nice guy. Its the media who hates him... ... reporters get Butt hurt when a player dosent wanna talk... Im just a baseball fan watching a game.... these reporters treat it like "life and death"... hes a great player who hits home runs... Thats what i wanna see after work or on a date at the stadium.. its entertainment... hes entertaining...

All the old white baseball players from the 50's on down were even worse to blacks. But people still love their achievements.
Allot of them were even in the KKK way back when. Like Ty Cobb.
So why pick on Barry?

Why would I root for Barry Bonds? Because he is a fine baseball player. I have nothing but the utmost respect for Barry's achievements.
How many ball players can say they led the majors in base on balls? Barry is certainly one of them.

...but you can still break records even though you aren't liked. And steriods is no reason to hate the man... they've been using corked bats forever. Plus, you don't need the steroids situation to hate the man.. there is plenty of material there already to hate him for.
