Quoted from source below:

"The Leiden Separatists bought the ship Speedwell in Holland, and boarded it at Delftshaven.

They then sailed to Southampton, England to meet the Mayflower, which had been chartered by the merchant investors. In Southampton they joined with other Separatists and the additional colonists hired by the investors.

The two ships began the voyage, but the Speedwell leaked so badly that the expedition had to return to England, first to Dartmouth and then to Plymouth. Finally, the Pilgrims sold the Speedwell and had to set out from Plymouth, England, on board the Mayflower alone."

Which Pilgrims? There are records of many Anglican and Catholic Pilgrims going all over the world from these shores and from Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The very first recorded pilgrims must have been the 5th Century Irish expedition to Northern Canada. I do not know of any record of the ship being named, maybe one of the Irish People may know more.

The Mayflower,,,,contrary to popular belief the first pilgrims boarded it from Boston in Lincolnshire before it sailed to Southampton.....The last church service these first pioneers had was in the 700 year old Boston Stump church which has the highest tower of all UK churches at 362 feet,,,Boston stump is 700 years old in 2009....the pulpit they were preached from is still in use today,,,I was i the church earlier today......you can climb the tower for just £2,50....the replica Mayflower makes regular visits to the town about once every 2 years and docks in "The Haven" which is about 4 miles up stream of the River Withams mouth into the Wash...Just 6 miles away from Boston is a small hamlet of about 50 houses and one shop,,the name of the hamlet is "New York",,,Bostons Mayor at the time of the sailing to the US went with her and became the first mayor of the small village of Boston Massachusetts

The pilgrims first ship left fom the Rotherhithe area of the Thames, near St Mary's church (where it's captain,Christopher Jones, is buried) and sailed for Southampton.
It was the Mayflower.

And I personally think Carrie A should apologise for calling everyone dumb since she has it sailing in1442(!) instead of 1620, with Columbus at the helm. She's even 50 years too early for him.
