LOL I know exactly what you are talking about I'm a fashion student at FIT and people try to suck up all the time. It's really pathetic.

Don't know, maybe because I'm a New Yorker, but I see fake compliments as part of social skills. It shows that you are just being friendly. I think it's okay unless someone is using insincere compliments as a means of selling you something or to exploit you, then it's totally wrong. Then again with 22 million people in the NY Metro area a little bit of friendliness goes a long way.

Yes!! that happens to me all the time! Like at school one time i was wearing the most god awful shirt becuz all of my others were dirty and i had absolutely NOTHING else to wear, and this really 'popular' girl came up to me and goes "Ellie i LOVE your shirt it really compliments your eyes!" and you could totally tell she was lying. What i do is just play along and for example when that girl came up to me i just say ' yes thank you thats what a lot of ppl have been saying today' but in case that line wont work in your situations just smile and say thank you, and know that at least a couple of times in your life you will make fake compliments too. xoxo ellie

Maybe you really do look good to them. Everyone has a different opinion of what "looks good". Some people really prefer a natural look or seeing someone that seems comfortable with themselves.

ABSOLUTELY hate it! I get those all the time. To respond to them just smile and give a laugh (if a real one won't come, fake ones work to.)

Just say, "Oh really? I haven't worn these is years. Must still work for me!"
Most of the time they are really complimenting you, so just laugh it off.
