It stems from the mindless hatred of John Cena that a portion of internet fans have been bombarding everyone with for years now. The WWE, for decades now, has strictly adhered to a relatively simple formula of identifying a star as the "face of the company", pushing them to the moon, and having them rarely lose. Hulk Hogan is probably the most famous and successful in that role, but Steve Austin, The Rock, Brock Lesnar, John Cena and to a lesser extent, Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker, have all filled that position at one time or another as well. The person who becomes "the man", as John Cena is right now and The Rock was before him, just doesn't lose very often. If they did, they wouldn't be "the man". We all know that professional wrestling is scripted, sure, but on a subconscious level, the vast majority of fans don't take guys who lose often nearly as seriously as they do the ones who win more often than not. To say that Cena is "hogging the spotlight" or "burying" his opponents because he wins frequently is completely ridiculous. You would have to say that about Triple H, The Rock, Austin, Hogan and everyone else who has had runs at the top of the company. And, like you mentioned, Cena actually loses quite a bit. Sure, his losses aren't always clean, but that's to be expected. He's the freaking WWE Champion for crying out loud! If he lost cleanly every week, he wouldn't be the champion. That's the nature of the position at its very core. The champion wins more often then he loses. In fact, compared to previous franchise figureheads, Cena loses a LOT. I mean, when you look at Hogan's win/loss record, clean or otherwise, when he was the face of the WWF, it isn't even close to Cena. The same goes for Austin. Mick Foley mentioned in one of his biographies (I can't recall which one) that when he defeated Austin on RAW one time, it was the first time that Austin had lost a match cleanly in over two years. Two years! Can anyone, looking at the situation objectively, possibly say that Cena wins more than those guys? Not a chance. EDIT: Upon reading some of the answers above me, I've noticed that a few users have said that it's the way that Cena wins his matches; specifically him getting "beating up for 95 percent of the match before hitting his five moves of doom". Give me a freaking break. Every wrestler in the WWE, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM, has five or six moves they cycle through every match, even the so-called "good" wrestlers like The Undertaker, Edge, CM Punk and Daniel Bryan. Cena and Randy Orton get ragged on all the time because of the tired old "five moves of doom" argument, and it's crap. The Rock uses fewer moves than Cena does. Austin used about the same. I don't care if you like John Cena or not, but at least try to be unbiased.
