I see a lot of people recommending spybot and adaware but I have seen them miss so much I stopped using them 2 years ago. What is wrong with people?

Just fyi I don't advocate buying antispyware software, that's just as stupid.

Exactly, none catch everything and all of these apps only catch the common stuff. Formatting is the only way to ensure security.

How can you give thumbs up to a person that asked a question I had already answered? You people really are stupid.

people think they know something...anything, but they dont.
they aren't smart enough to make they're own program or for that matter, to even find somebody else's. these people have no knowledge on how to navigate a computer..and thats why they resort to yahoo answers to find things like... where can i get a good anti-virus program...when all they have to do is STFW

It's better than you recommending to format a hard drive. Yes free versions of software miss a lot of things but they also catch a lot of things and they can help a lot. If people can't afford to pay then the only options are to get free software like adaware and spybot as well as free online scans from AV companies like Trend Micro. How stupid are you?
Ok so In order to keep my computer safe I must format it after every time I access the internet because you can get spyware from anywhere and basically get it every time you access the internet. Wow you know you must have some free time on your hands even with an image file thats still about 15 minutes of time having to spend to go back and if you want to save anything then you're going to spend even more time. Your views are flawed and after looking at a number of your responses to other questions and your percentage of best answers it shows that you are an idiot 95% of the time!

They are free and when used in conjunction with a half decent firewall and antivirus, will stop any harmful adware/spyware/trojans from getting onto a computer. Anyways, its almost impossible not to have SOME spyware on your computer... but in the end, MOST of the spyware out there aren't even dangerous.
Also, if you think a person who uses Spybot is stupid, then your standards are ridiculously high. When I was Project Controls for this small family owned international sign company, there were people there that struggled to print. Most of which didn't even know about Ctrl Alt Delete.

Pc World did a test in which they found that Adaware and Spybot WHEN USED TOGETHER catch more stuff than any other program. They also said that Microsoft Defender was best to add to this equation.

Maybe they have not seen them miss anything. Not everyone is infected with the same stuff it all depends on what sites you go to. Joe who likes porn may be able to clean everything cause thats very commin stuff where as Guy who looks around for ilegal software and serials may have a harder time cause you can get newer spyware infecting on your pc. I'm not sure what you do so Im not sure what its missing. But usually people are ernest in there recommendations.

It's free.
No reason not to have spybot/adaware, unless your hard drive is completely full (in which case... there's probably something wrong with you or your computer).
Sure they miss alot, but that's what you get from free software.

You must match your name. I am not stupid, dumb, ignorant or senile, and I've used SpyBot and Ad-Aware for nearly 5 years. They have consistently caught and removed malware and spyware. So, who's stupid? People who think paying a high price for the same software will get them something extra. Just money wasted. How stupid is that?

people recommend them because they do work and they are free. if you know of a better free one they you should post it instead of criticizing what others suggest.
some scanners find more then others but NONE catch EVERYTHING. One reason to have 2 instead of one. I run both spy-bot and ad aware and have never had an issue with malware/spy-ware/ad ware. i've used them to clean many customer PCs and recommend them to customers as well.
Most people don't want to spend the money and a free scanner is better then no scanner and again i actually think they catch most of it, nothing catches everything

I don't think you should be so critical. Everyone use, what he or she likes to use. for example, I use True Sword and I'm sure that you have never heard of such program. Does it mean you're stupid? Surely, not. It just means you don't know everything about that kind of programs
