I will be visiting next month with friends. Our hotel is close to the Palms, which is where all the events are taking place, but we wanna go on the strip as well. I'm wondering because I wanna know if it would be cheaper for me to just rent a car versus all the taxi rides with 4 people. Also, about how much is it from the strip to the airport in a taxi or shuttle service?

Easy

Use a shuttle they pass in front of the hotels every half hour and take you on the strip, and very inexpensive.

Traffic can s*ck on the Strip no matter what way you slice it, so unless you've got the patience of a saint or are used to being surrounded by crazy drivers, it's not necessary to rent a car. Walking is by far the best way on the Strip.

There's the Deuce which is more or less a shuttle (it's a couple of bucks per trip) that runs constantly. There's also regular shuttles and cabs up the wazoo. Besides - all you'd really need is to get from the Palms to one of the hotels on the Strip. If you cab it from the Palms to Bellagio and walk to the other hotels (or use the trams between Mirage and TI, an Excalibur and Mandalay Bay or use the monorail) you'd still come out ahead financially for the most part.

The way I look at it is this - an ecomony car (which is pretty much a motorized roller skate, since the rental agencies use pretty teeny cars) is going to cost you about $120 for four days (something midsized is going to be another $50 or so) and gas is about $3 a gallon - so you're looking at easily $150 to $200 for just that. That's about $40 to $50 a person minimum. If you cab it up to the Strip (especially if you go to the closest hotel to the Palms - which is either Caesar's or Bellagio) and use the monorail or walk or take trams, you'll spend about half that. A three day pass on the monorail is $40 a person - for unlimited use. Plus, you don't have to deal with traffic - someone else gets that aggravation!

A cab from the hotel to The Palms is about $15-$20 plus a tip, as long as you don't let the driver take the tunnel - that'll tack on another $20. (Just tell the driver that you're going to the Palms and that you'd prefer them not to take the tunnel.) Split amongst 4 people is at most about $6 a pop with the tip.

Do not rent a car. Traffic is insane there, even off the strip. Parking is horrid. We rented a car to stay at Terrible's Casino and never used it, and regretted the extra money. Taxis would have been cheaper. The concierge at the hotel can give you the names of the best cab companies and probably even call them for you. We will never rent a car in Vegas again. Oh, and program the taxi phone number in your cell phone for returning to the hotel. We did this in Napa Valley. Have fun! And definintely see Fremont Street.

If the strip is your target do not rent a car. Driving here is literally taking your life in your hands. People drive crazy here and they don't care anything about you. Take a cab. It should only be $15.00 from airport to your hotel. Be prepared to wait in line for an hour for a cab at the airport but it is much safet. To and from the strip under $10.00 by cab. You can only catch a cab by the hotel/casinos. You can not flag down a cab here. Some hotels offer free shuttles to the strip, check on those. Do not rent a car.

I believe the Palms is not too far from the strip and everything is pretty much within walking distance. If not, there are taxis around. Most hotels have valet parking if you arrive by car and if you are flying in, most hotels have a shuttle bus that runs from the airport. You might need to rent a car if you plan to see any of the surrounding area, though. Have fun!

it's easy to get around on the strip. you'll probably want to just start at one end (like the southern end at mandalay bay) and walk as far as you can. i don't think there's a point to rent a car if you're staying on the strip only. there are other hotels off the strip that are just as flashy (the rio, palms, green valley ranch and redrock) that you'd probably need a car to get to bc a cab ride would be ridiculous. i hate waiting around for shuttles and buses. and traffic isn't that bad here... maybe on the strip, and during rush hour (but what city isn't busy during rush hour?) i think you should just walk the strip and if you're tired and have gone pretty far just cab it back to your hotel. i'm pretty sure you can find a car rental for about 40/day w/ taxes and everything. maybe rent a car for a day just to visit places off the strip.

Taxis are so much easier, and cheap if you split it up.
We've never rented a car there. From the strip to the airport was about 20 bucks, if I remember right.

Your better off renting a car. the Palms isn't on the strip. I don't know how much the taxi fare would be for your destinations. But definatley rent a car.

it is pretty easy. Just get an all day bus pass, or you can get one for a week. Then all you have to do is jump on a bus to go from place to place.

I wouldnt walk. Especially with cute shoes!!

Make sure you check out the Freemont Street Experience in the old vegas strip!
