Truck drivers are charged more for traffic violations and tickets because they are professional drivers and should know better due to the number of miles they drive.

So should law enforcement, who should know the law and the consequences of their actions, be punished more than if a regular civilian committed the same crime?

Yes, I think they should, with the exception of crimes that could be seen as mistakes that happen during the execution of their duty. For example, a police officer who accidentally shoots a civilian he THOUGHT was armed should still be tried for that crime, especially when you consider that in some areas, police officers have to be extra wary of people with guns. However, as far as other crimes, or premeditated crimes, where they should just plain Know Better? Absolutely they should be held to a higher standard.

Absolutely.

Locally, a police chaplain shot and killed the husband of his mistress execution style with his service pistol. He is serving a life sentence, but separated from the rest of the prison population.

I don't understand why the ex-cops get segregated in prison. They swore an oath to uphold the law, when they broke that oath, they should get the full fury of legal punishment put upon them. Including serving in the prison general population.

If the other prisoners find out that they used to be a cop and try to kill them....so be it. They shouldn't have broken the law in the first place.

Why not!they must first discipline themselves and abide by the laws of the land so that the civilians can emulate and do same since followers learn from their leader. For this reason, they must severely be punish to serve as tolerance to others.Thank you.

Personally, I think that's a good idea.

The same thing that allows criminals to be punished more for harming a police officer --- because police are necessary for our society -- should hold law enforcement to a higher standard.

2 days ago in Okla. a cop fired 2 shots at a snake. 1 bullet ricocheted and shot and killed a 5 yr. old boy. Since his Supervisor OKd the shot, they were both suspended with pay, pending investigation. This is RECKLESS DISREGARD for human life at least in my opinion. It is murder and accomplice to murder at the least. If a gang does a drive-by and kills a bystander this rule applies. Bet they aren't given an at-home vacation with pay. They are IMMEDIATELY jailed when caught. One day after this crime a dump truck driver backed up and ran over a 15 yr. old boy. He is being charged the same day with negligent homicide. Sound fair to anyone else? Since our lawmakers and enforcement officers are supposed to be held to a higher standard, shouldn't their punishment for these crimes be 2 to 3 times more than the rest of the population? They are usually asked to resign or something similar and they just go right back to that occupation. WHAT A JOKE!!!! BTW, a few years back an Oklahoma county jailer was charged for beating on unruly prisoners. He actually had the nerve to complain about the posibility of having to do time with some of the same people who he had beaten in the past. I've never heard the outcome of this case, yet. The legal community sees nothing wrong with their own actions until they are the object of attention. And since most are not capable, by law, of being prosecuted for their actions. The Duke players should be able to enforce perjury, contempt, conspiracy, and many other crimes for the actions of the system and the so-called victim. The victims of this case were clearly put through the process just to try and save face for the system. How many of these families were bankrupted? Shamed? The DA as far as I'm aware has retired. YAY! We have a morally & ethically bankrupt criminal on the public dole. Cops are considered by courts to be absolutely right & honest. I personally have NEVER met a cop who didn't lie! IT'S THEIR JOB, people. Ever been pulled over for a tag or taillight, only to see for a fact that it was working? I was pulled over for stopping at a yield sign. When he asked me why, I told him that I knew he was going to pull me over, regardless, he threatened to haul me to jail! Justice is not blind , it is completely IGNORANT. My gf & I were taken to jail one night and when she asked for her atty. the cop called her a PRICK, and just kept on questioning her. They searched our residence with no warrant, siezed at least 2 p/u trucks full of stuff, most of which I will never see again. What they did give back was a bunch of things that they tore up and ruined just so I couldn't sell them. They gave my dogs to the SPCA, one of the cops got my snake, but my sugar gliders and hedgehogs were left in the empty house. They tried to claim the snake got loose but its odd to think that his cage with his mice in it was empty. He must have made himself a HOBO SACK LUNCH to go! If you fight fire with fire, which side has the most corrupt criminals? You have hit the nail on the head with this question, you'd better watch your back! Cops think that laws don't apply to them. And if one gets the chance you will get a taste of their vengeance.

My wife agrees with you. "Like ministers, police are expected to hold to a higher standard".

But I want to go easy on the army that protects us from criminal harm

If we put the police in jail, who will tell the delinquents to "move along"?

I tend to feel like giving slack to the men who buckle under the constant availability of stollen goods, cash, drugs, etc., in their dangerous work as cops.

If the uniform will fit, you must acquit.

I wouldn't say many cops are crooked. I know a lot of good cops.

No more and no less than any other citizen who breaks the law and is found guilty.

I think that's a great idea.

Let's add attorneys, district attorneys, judges, etc to the list.
