Can someone explain how the ideas of modern day affirmative action, universal health care and the Fairness Doctrine are not goose steps toward socialism?

Yes -- most Democratic candidate are socialist.

Not all, but certainly most of the front-runners.

We're not goose stepping toward socialism. It's such a hysterical viewpoint in my opinion. We manage to have Social Security, welfare, Medicaid, all sorts of "socialistic" programs that meld into our capitalistic society, and we will continue to do so. We haven't erected a statue of Karl Marx in Washington D.C. yet, and we won't be in the future. Right now so many Republicans point to UHC and start yelling "socialism" because it's a perfect platform for them to drub the Democrats. But the fact is that whether a Democrat or Republican gets elected we are going to have to move toward a different healthcare system. I'm really getting tired of all the screaming and fear mongering about socialism. It reminds me that there are too many people who don't have a clue about how this capitalistic country operates - incorporating some socialistic ideas to our benefit while still maintaining and thriving as capitalists. That's what we do - it's what we've done for decades, and so far no one has suggested scrapping our Constitution and designing a socialistic state. Please, stop the hysterics!

Because the Democrats are controlled by the rich and powerful as much a the Republicans. Both parties take campaign contributions from rich corporations. No socialist would ever support bourgeoisie in such a way.

Hiring based on race is wrong.
Universal healthcare fine if you care find it in the Constitution.
Fairness Doctrine has ONLY been proposed for radio not the media. There is also the First Amendment of the Bill of Rights (you may say what you want but you can not force others to listen to you).

They are not socialism--much less "goose steps toward socialism"--because they are tempered by the strong capitalistic nature of our country. Don't let the "false dichotomy," the lie of either/or, confuse you. We can have a capitalistic country with some social measures. In fact, considering our public schools and public roads, we already do.

They can't. Why should someone have to strive for excellence when they can rest on their laurals knowing that no matter how little they work they will get just as much as the guy who has a strong work ethic. Socialism and the liberal democratic party (not all democrats) are the party of the entitled and will never admit to it.

You forgot public education and social security, or are those aspects of socialism you are OK with?
What about having your bank account protected by the FDIC? It seems like collective banking to me, comrade. It's your money, why would my tax dollars be spent to bail you out because you screwed up and put your money in the wrong bank?

Socialism is de facto fascism: using an all-powerful government to force everyone to be politically correct, taxing everyone up the yinyang to pay for everyone else's expenses, and shutting down free speech because socialists don't like any speech except their own. Socialists are fascists because they want to use government to force everyone to think the way they do, and anything else is a hate crime, if in name only. Anyone who wants to run someone else's life is by definition a fascist.
