FOR ME: Texas, Mississippi, Georgia, select areas of Tennessee

I've always heard that North Carolina, Oklahoma, Hawaii, and Washington (st.) were friendly, but I've never been there.

I've never found the midwest (Ohio, Indiana, central/northern Missouri, central/eastern Kentucky) to be friendly at all. I'm not fond of most Alabama people I've met, either. I've also heard bad stories about Kansas and Nebraska.

The Virgin Islands, Canada ... oh right you said states
.... not too many. I 've been all over the country but I come home to the nicest folks anywhere...one of the reasons I keep returning.... to Maine. People in NH and VT are in close second place. Here everyone speaks to everyone, makes eye contact as you walk by and if you don't get an actual "hello" you always get a smile or a nod, and you can chat up the whole day with anyone, if you break down on the road it won't be long till someone stops to help, etc. Everyone is ready to lend a hand to their neighbor. Sure we have some transplants/foreigners that haven't quite caught on to our way of living but all in good time our kindness will break down their walls.

Kansas (don't know what bad stories you heard - must have been about city folk)
Missouri (again, don't judge by city people, get out in the small towns)
