I know saying a gay slur was wrong but I think he should've got another chance

I honestly like his CHARACTER on the show better than GEORGE, He gets on my damn nerves! I wish Dr. Burke was still on there!

He apologized for what he did, so I think it was blown way out of proportion!

I feel that if he was in the real world and not a celebrity he would have been written up and on probation for the gay slur. Most companies would have done that. He had to take classes, make a public apologie, etc...

Now the altercation he had with Patrick Dempsey, that's what did it. Anything related remotely to violence in the workplace is terms for immediate termination, so I'm glad that they didn't let is slide just because he is a "celebrity." We are all in control of our actions and each action we make does have consequences.

In a way I don't want him to be replaced on Grey's Anatomy. I want to see Christina (Sandra Oh) barry herself into work, maybe have a few flings here and there, and become a strong surgeon! Her character has a lot to offer now that Dr. Burke isn't there.

If this was a regular 9 to 5 gig, he would have been put on probation for using the slur. But he definitely would have gotten terminated for the physical altercation with Patrick Dempsey. So I assume that the show gave him a second chance after the slur, but the assualt on the co-star was the deciding factor.

from all reports, there were complaints from many of the cast/crew about mr washington's behavior and statements. in a situation like that, when one person is showing a lack of ability to work and play, well, with the rest of the organization, then it's often best for all concerned to part company with them. in other words, if he can't play nicely with the others, then he needs a permanent time out! seriously!!!

as i recall, before christina's wedding (which obviously didn't happen), there was a professor she had been involved with, who had been under consideration for the position of 'chief'. i can see where he might just show up, now that he would feel he had a clear field to an emotionally vulnerable christina. also, wasn't there a male nurse from the first season she was somewhat involved with?

as far as reports go, mr washington had several chances. when does enough become enough?

Political correctness has been going wayyyyy too far for wayyyyy too long now.

If Washington was a recurring problem with the entire cast, then perhaps there was just reason for letting him go. But they should not permit the media to insinuate that "hate speech" was the reason.

Whatever happened to "I may disagree with what you say, but I defend to the death your right to say it"?

I would also draw ABC's attention to the year George Lopez hosted the Oscars and stood up there on stage derogating white and black people. They did nothing at all about that.

Wrong isn't the word for it, if someone had called him the N-word they would have been fired in a second, or, if he had made sexual advances on a female member of the cast or crew he would have been let go again, why shouldn't he be fired for the same abuse against a gay man...

All that is before he grabbed Patrick Dempsey by the throat...

In a normal workplace he would have been fired for both things that he did so why shouldn't he be fired just because he is on a TV show?

technically they didn't fire him, they didn't renew his contract and if you knew the true story, you would know he was used as a escape goat because everything was taken out of context and blown completely out of proportion. i don't agree with what he said but it really was blown way out of proportion. sometimes corporations go a bit too far when it comes to pc issues. no one should replace his character specifically but there should be another egomaniac type character put in his place.
