In "Rashomon", a woman is raped by a bandit and her samurai husband is killed. In a series of flashbacks, the four people present (including the dead man, through a medium) give five different accounts of what happened, leaving the audience to try to puzzle out the truth. The name has since become synonymous with indeterminacy.

Today, it doesn't seem as exotically Japanese nor as shockingly postmodern as it did in 1950, but it's still a well-done and engaging puzzle story. The visual style of the film is very impressive, with dynamic camera movements, subjective points of view, and naturalistic lighting. The camera work is integral to the telling of the story.
