if you have a loose negative wire it will get hot.....follow neg wire to block and make sure it is tight......

You have high resistance at the battery post connection. Resistance plus amperage equals heat. Remove the terminal, clean it well, then replace and mike sure it's tight.
(Ignore the advice to follow the cable to where it connects to the frame or block, it gets hot where the problem is, not several feet away.)

I would check to see what kind of condition your battery cable is in. If it is in bad shape it might need to be replaced.

Dirty or loose connection. Take it off, clean post, clean (or replace) connector, tighten.
